If you only do one driver school a year, you can just go with the Hawks HPS, same performance as stock, but no much less dusting and no squeeking. If you track you car (AutoX not included) more often than that you might want to go with the Hawks HPS Plus. I got mine from Bimmerworld.com Joe. ---------------------- I'm sure this has been discussed a million times, but I'm new to this list. I recently traded in my 96' 328 on a 99 M3, and forgot how bad the Jurid pads dust. I upgraded my last pads to Metal Masters. Just wanted to get some feedback as to a good high-performance pad that will cut down on the dust. I will be doing a driving school this summer as well as a few autox. Should I stay with the Metal Masters Thanks in advance Doug Wirth 99M3 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! I misspoke earlier, the wheels are 17x8 instead of 17x7.5. Which makes them a little more suited for my purposes. I originally planned on building my car to the IP class, but the loss of a certain opportunity has caused me to "drop" to I Stock. I know I'd be able to run 18x8.5 wheels as a maximum size. Thanks to the recent thread on the 245/40/17 on 17x8 wheels, I know that I should be able to fit these tires all around. Any thoughts on this setup? (17x8 wheels with 245/40/17 tires)? Looking for the optimal tire sizes for a set of street tires and a set of track tires. I know, stock fitment is 235/40-17. But what's the best to run, track and street? I'm completly open to rolling my fenders, but don't see how it would be an issue with this size wheel... ---------------------------------------------- There is a good reason why you picked up the 7.5" wheels for cheap....no one wants them except for winter tires. In an earlier email, I thought your car was going to be converted into a IP club racer. Wheels and tires are "free" in Prepared class which means you could use up to 9" wheels with 245/255 tires on your '95 M3. Why would you opt for a 7.5" wheel? Scott Riley '95 M3 I-Stock

#6. Track Trailer Pictures - from Wayne Miller
Top
Date: Thu, 18 Apr 2002 10:51:19 -0400 From: "Wayne Miller" <m3@waynemiller.com> Subject: Track Trailer Pictures Well, it took a lot of work for my dad and I but my track trailer is now all ready. I installed the trailer hitch over 1 year ago and the wiring soon after that but I didn't buy the trailer until about 3 weeks ago. I went with the $200 Northern Supply trailer and used the directions that I found here http://www.s2ki.com/faqs/tracktrailer.php as the basis to make mine. The major difference is that I used a 3/4" plywood board covering the entire surface rather than leaving the front open and I did this in case I ever need to put anything else on the trailer. The total cost was about $350 and included at least 4 trips to Home Depot. I loaded it up last night and tested it today (up to about 90 - yes, I know that's too fast but it was all in the name of research) and everything seems pretty stable. The biggest challenge was backing it into my driveway as the trailer is so small that it is difficult to see what it is doing behind you. The pictures are here: http://64.14.56.30/m3/trailer/ and feel free to ask any questions. -Wayne P.S. The last picture is the damage that my garage in NYC did when they backed a SUV into my car last Friday. They did it right in front of me so there was no question about who did it and I already replaced the smashed headlight. Don't worry, they are paying to have it fixed at the body shop of my choice (not their place on 10th Avenue that they offered to have it fixed at).

Hardly any dust, better bite than stock and seemingly better overall performance. I haven't tracked the R4S, but know a few people who do and have never heard them complain. I've been switching to R4 pads for the track and just LOVE them! This is just for schools and not racing though, so I can't say how they'd stand up in race conditions. For limited track/autox and mostly street applications, I'd feel comfortable suggesting the R4S. Mine haven't made any noise either. I'd suggest agains the R4 pads for street, unless you don't mind a lot of dust and a whole lot 'o noise! ;) Jonathan L. >From: Doug Wirth <DWirth@serena.com> >Reply-To: Doug Wirth <DWirth@serena.com> >To: E36M3 <e36m3@bmw-m.net> >Subject: [E36M3] Brakes >Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 12:37:41 -0500 > >Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 10:30:47 -0700 >From: Doug Wirth <DWirth@serena.com> >Subject: Brakes > >I'm sure this has been discussed a million times, but I'm new to this list. >I recently traded in my 96' 328 on a 99 M3, and forgot how bad the Jurid >pads dust. #9. RE: Check Coolant level and check engine - from Anthony Le

Date: Thu, 18 Apr 2002 16:41:56 -0500 From: Anthony Le <anthony.le@wcom.com> Subject: RE: Check Coolant level and check engine Juan, Check your radiator neck connection at the top of the radiator to the coolant hose. I had the exact problem with the "check coolant level". I put coolant in and it went away. Couple weeks later, the radiator neck broke. Lucky, I smelled coolant and shut down before the car overheated. I think what happenned on mine is that the plastic neck cracked and caused a small loss of coolant or pressure. This throws the coolant check light. The check engine makes you think you're low on coolant, and not warn you of a possible broken radiator neck. This could have been VERY expensive had I not caught it in time. --- anthony 95M3 > > > -------------------- 8 -------------------- > Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 19:03:50 -0700 > From: "Juan Bruce" <jbrucebmw@hotmail.com> > Subject: Check Coolant level and check engine > > Two days ago "check coolant level" began appearing when upon > starting up and > turning off my M3. #10. Control arms: How to check? - from Steve Klein
Top
Date: Thu, 18 Apr 2002 16:49:06 -0500 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: Control arms: How to check? Howdy- Just that. How can I inspect/check my control arms to see if I need to replace? The driver front has felt a bit loose over bumps (no wheel wobble at speed, tho) and is making some klunk noises on rough roads. And what might be causing a spring-scraping-like skreeeching right around the driver side rear wheel well when I get into and out of the car, adding or subtracting my weight from the suspension? Kind of like a rusty screen door spring might sound. Thanks all- Steve
