That can cause the condensation to build up in your oil. I don't think that mixing oil brands or weights should matter (except that Amsoil is a scam but that's another topic ;-) ). The Oil cap shouldn't matter since ventilation is through the PCV system, not the oil cap. If you sucked water into the intake then this could hurt something else (HFM, valves, etc) but probably not get into the oil. I wouldn't assume that the head gasket is blown but if you're looking for diagnostic steps then you can always do a compression test. The M3 doesn't have Honda reliability but believe me, after owning 3 Porsches (924, 944 Turbo, Boxster), they are better than the P-cars. Blown headgaskets are pretty rare and usually only happen if something else caused it. #2. Fikse valve stem leak - from bmwm3nut@att.net

Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 16:32:12 +0000 From: bmwm3nut@att.net Subject: Fikse valve stem leak If I understand you correctly, you are talking about the insert that goes into the valve stem that actually screws into the valve stem itself. Fikses' uses steel valve stems for strength and when you mentioned using tweezers, I am thinking its the inserts. Okay then, the inserts are suppose to use a special tire insert tool that has a straight cut that will slide into the valve stem to turn the insert tight. I bet the tire installer did not tighten that insert and NOT the fault of Fikse. I have 3 sets of Fikses and none of them leak. Just tighten the insert and all will be good. -- Tim Ng 95 YELA/BUZZN/M3 92 325ic M-Tech "ULTIMATE TANNING MACHINE" 91///M3 "SUNNY DAY CAR" 88///M3 "TRACK CAR" AWESOME 2.5 ENGINE

#3. Cooling system -- does yours maintain pressure when cold? - from KLchmn@aol.com

Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 12:58:34 -0400 From: KLchmn@aol.com Subject: Cooling system -- does yours maintain pressure when cold? Gruppe, I was doing some prep work on my '95 M3 club race car and decided to look into the coolant reservior. The car had been sitting for well over a week without running. When I opened the coolant reservior tank cap, the coolant expanded and filled the tank! Is this normal? I recently replaced the cap as the previous one would allow coolant to spew under 'spirited' driving conditions (i.e., racing). Thanks for your assistance. I have a sub box with an amp with x-over and want to give it a shot to see if it helps the sound enough to consider not replacing the whole system. How do you get to the RCA wiring? BTW - just picked up my M3 last week and am so thrilled with the car. 24K miles and very well taken care of - I plan to do the same!! Scott '98 M3/4 - Alpine White / Black

I have this weird socket that I picked up years ago. The inside is packed with dozens of small diameter spring-loaded pins. When you push it over a bolt the pins touching the bolt head's end retract, while those around the sides nestle tightly around the head. This socket is sold either as a universal socket to fit any bolt head, or else to use on severely mangled bolts. I've never tried it, but I'm willing to bet that it'd work a treat on those "locking" lug bolts that have an irregular OD. I'm also willing to bet that I'm not the only person that bought one of these. Good thing I'm not in the wheel theft business... Neil 96 M3 - just *bought* some more wheels

Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 15:41:26 EDT From: HYPERM3@aol.com Subject: Re:CF hood question-crash worthiness My buddy had a very nice solidly built carbon fiber hood on his 328. The mounting points were perfect but it couldn't use the shocks otherwise they were too strong and would bend the hood when closed. Shocks therefore were removed. Stock front locking points were used as well. The difference between stock and carbon weights was unbelievable, you could lift the carbon hood with the tip of your pinky, no joke. Point of story is an acquaintance was driving his car and slid in the rain, hopped a curb and head on through a light pole. Carbon hood disintegrated upon impact. The only thing left was the x shape of the fiberglass that was attached to the underside of the hood. You could see fiber dust all over the engine which itself was pushed back a good 5 inches. Car was totaled and he's now in a 99 M3. Note to all, carbon hood equals beautiful lightweight addition but does nothing for structural integrity in an accident. Alex "HyperM3" Demsky 97 S/C M3
