First off, get your facts straight. I was on a series of esses that connect a highway to a main street. They are two lanes, and run along a chain link fenced industrial area on both sides. There are no residents, no sidewalk, no nothing. It was 11pm at night, and there was not a soul in sight. This was the whole damn reason we went out on that road. A fellow lister was with me in the car and can attest to that. The reason I didn't get arrested is because even the cop understood that it was as safe conditions as is possible to be speeding under. This is why I got a speeding ticket and not reckless. > what if a car pulled out of a driveway, or a bicyclist > lost control, or a kid ran into the street? I don't speed like this on residential streets, and get annoyed when others do, so relax. Have you ever sped before? ALL speeding is illegal. > i'm sorry i don't recall who got the ticket, but you > should be thankful that you only have a fine and > increased insurance rates to deal with, rather than > trying to find Johnny Cochrain's phone number. Sorry man, but save the moral judgments for church. If I wanted opinions on whether what I did was right or wrong I would've sent my e-mail out to a church group, not a sports car list. -p

Wrong...I drive to work on the Merrit Parkway in Ct, and while the posted limit is usually affixed at 55 mph, when traffic is down, and weather permits, Im frequently safe doing 90 mph...I often stretch it higher, but Im not going to argue for that...But I will argue that with my car, I have no problem doing a safe 90 some of the time...But....Last week, they lowered the limit on long stretches to 40 mph, because there is sometimes construction in the area....Yet when I drive to and from work, there is NO construction going on...yet the limit stands...This clearly a piss poor application of a speed limit, and people, even if they arent doing my customary 90 on the road, are nevertheless maintaining their usual 55 to 70 mph. I would argue that this is neither 'irresponsible', nor 'very dangerous'...If anything is irresponsible, and bound to promote non compliance, its the frivelous posting of construction type speed limits for long stretches of a major parkway when there is no construction in the area. He was cited for 68 in a 40. No comment was made on where this occurred, what the conditions were like, etc. I have been pulled over before and told by the policeperson that I was traveling much faster than I actually was (good thing I did not get a ticket in that case) and I have also been told the radar recorded much lower than I was actually going (thank goodness since I was still cited for speeding in this instance). My comments were not about judging Peter or his driving discretion. I could not make one based on the facts given. If he was speeding through a crowded urban neighborhood with children dancing in the street, mothers strolling their children, and pets crossing through the yards, bicyclers on both sides of a crowded one lane road, I would agree that 68 in a 40 is too fast, you deserve a ticket like Zack says. If he was driving down a multi lane street in the middle of nowhere, no other cars or vehicles to be seen anywhere on a beautiful clear day and the speed limit is artificially low and the policeman cited a speed higher than he was actually traveling, I say fight it. Anything between, well, you get the point. Moral of the story, if you don't know the facts, I think comments should be limited to the original question, not on random speculation. Later, Rich

Thanks and hopefully I won't suffer any more blowouts on this new set. Regards, Rich
