Can anybody suggest a good reasonable place to find such replacements if they are available? Thanks in advance. Ed Frank 97 M3/4

Date: Wed, 01 May 2002 10:41:01 -0600 From: Jesse Caldwell <Jesse.Caldwell@Colorado.EDU> Subject: how many shades of alpinweiss are there? hi all, it's time to fix the body damage from my off-roading experience last january. the most significant (actually, the only) damage was to passenger front fender and bumper cover, so i plan to outright replace both parts and have a body shop paint/install them for me. bimmerhaus recommended sve autobody in broomfield. i'm not going to ignore advice from my favorite shop, so i just called sve and they quoted me $1100 to paint/install the two items (does not include cost of fender/bumper cover). here's what irks me -- the guy i talked to said that bmw went through several shades of alpine white and so even though they order their paint from the same place that bmw does, they can't guarantee a match, and will probably have to blend the door and hood to make it look right. i didn't damage the hood and i didn't damage the door so i don't care to paint them. seems to me that for $1100 they can try every variant of alpinweiss out there until they get it right (i believe my car is labeled alpinweiss-300 and some dealers list alpinweiss, alpinweiss ii and alpinweiss iii as valid colors for our cars). i would like to think that a body shop wouldn't have any trouble finding out what paint got slapped on 5/96 build date e36 m3s. i'm new to this bodywork stuff, so any opinions about this paint matching business would be most appreciated. thanks, jesse

#3. oil starvation - from Dorffer, Rich

Date: Wed, 1 May 2002 13:11:27 -0400 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: oil starvation > Why do you think the oil pressure idiot light didn't illuminate? Because it only illuminates at about 8 psi IIRC. That is pretty late warning in my opinion. I am looking at adding a adjustable oil pressure light (Longacre) to my gauge set (oil pressure and oil temperature) as another precaution set for something in the range of 15 - 20 psi. I agree with Jason, my E30 325is has a light for low level AND a light for pressure, and both have worked flawlessly. The low level came on when it dropped just below the min. mark on the dipstick. I believe that equates to 2.90 - 7.25 psi. Regardless, you pretty much have to lose nearly all your pressure before the light illuminates. Later, Rich

Date: Wed, 1 May 2002 12:32:49 -0500 From: "Scott Yu" <scott@ditherdog.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Help!!: Cleaning Hawk brake pad residue from I had a scary experience with Hawk Blues on a wet day at NHIS - I've got the RD Class II splitter on the front of the car, and you could see the rust flakes deposited in a way that showed the vortices in the airflow coming from the winglets (interesting, but unhappy nonetheless). Also, my wheels were in rough shape, mainly because I forgot what Kit said: "You HAVE to spray your wheels with Pam(tm) Cooking Spray before you head out. And you have to spray the wheels when they're OFF the car." I think Kit found out that 2nd one the hard way. But yeah - it took me about 8 hours to get the stuff off my wheels. There's a bit of good news though - when you get those little rust flakes on the paint, a simple treatment with 3M Imperial Hand Glaze will take 'em right off. Of course you don't want to use IHG all the time as it's a 'cleaner' but my car was uber-shiny afterwards, I love IHG. Oh, and I love my hawk blues, too! Scott Yu Scott Riley wrote: From: "Riley, Scott" <sriley@cardinalcapital.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Help!!: Cleaning Hawk brake pad residue from wheels I want to thank everyone for their help on cleaning my Fikse FM/10 wheels that were encrusted with Hawk Blues brake dust. I know that they were some mildly heated discussions about Hawk pads and the damaging effects that they have when used in rainy conditions or in situations where they do not reach optimum temperatures (e.g. autocross). My '95 M3 is a dedicated track car; however, it was early in the season and the autocross was the only "fix" that I could find to feed my track habit. To make things worse, it rained and I didn't have time to clean the wheels until 24-48 hours later. I will know better next time to simply change the pads to something else (Pagids, Mintex, PF, etc.). It is well worth the 30 minutes to change pads, than the 18 hours that I spent cleaning my wheels.

My gauge rarely runs above 60 and closer to 30 when hot at idle. Are you saying the engine needs higher pressure than it puts out?
