#1. NYC M3 dyno day? - from Wayne Miller

Date: Thu, 2 May 2002 11:18:04 -0400 From: "Wayne Miller" <m3@waynemiller.com> Subject: NYC M3 dyno day? So the NSX dyno day got me thinking....why not try to arrange an M3 dyno day? I have been working closely with a shop in Hackensack, NJ (about 10 minutes from the George Washington Bridge) during the development and testing of the OBDII cam kit and I can probably convince them to open up on a Saturday for us. Please E-mail me privately if you are interested and include what engine modifications you have so I can get a good idea. I know that there are a few supercharged M3's nearby and at least 1 Euro 3.0 and one AA Turbo so I think we can get a bunch of different configurations in. -Wayne

Are there any negatives associated with installing a set of 80w Hella Optilux lamps in the low beam side of my US spec M3? Melted housings? Blown fuses? I'm leaving the high beams stock for now. Thank you in advance. Chuck Hanson 97 M3/4

I'd rather use the Dynapack dynos as less stress is placed on tires, suspension components (tie downs not properly placed), etc.. Maybe we can put this off until Steve D gets that garage up and running? I know I have no reservations whatsoever putting my car on the dynapack. At one point a few months ago they actually had pictures and pricing info, but it has since been removed from the site. I have seen the Bell Engineering turbo kits for Miatas and I also like Corky Bell's approach to engineering the problem. I was really looking forward to seeing this make production, but it has either slipped or been shelved. On an approach scale I equate Corky Bell with Jim Conforti in engineering style (no shortcuts, complete solution to the problem). Corky also makes some interesting points relating supercharger power to turbocharger power and the benefits vs. drawbacks of each. It is still in "the latter stages of tooling for production", just as it was back then. #6. JTD RSMs VS E46 RSM's - from Luis Rueda

Since I'm gonna be there, I figure I'll take the JTD RSM's out & replace them w/E46 convertible mounts. I'm gonna be installing Konis/H&R's on my '99 MCoupe, do you guys recommend for me to use the JTD RSM's on the MCoupe or should I just stick w/E46 RSM's? (I ask cuz I don't have experience w/the E46 convertible RSM's & I was wondering how do they compare w/the JTD's). Corky, admittingly, is not very well versed in modern engine management systems. He told me the biggest problem has been getting the system tuned. I think the Motronic system was compensating and making tuning the AFPR very difficult. If Corky got someone familiar with Motronics (i.e., JC) to help him tune a chip, I would guess the kit would work very well. I have his kit on my miata, and it has been super reliable and powerful. They permit easier removal of your rear shocks, through the wheel well rather than having to tear apart your trunk for shock adjustments. I used the E46 M3/convertible (same part no. I believe) ones, but I have non adjustable Bilstein dampers (H&R c/o's). Jeff > Okay, I'm gonna be replacing my current Bilsteins/H&R's > on my '95 M3 w/Koni SA's & stock springs. #10. NSX SC Shootout - from Paul Elliott
Top
Date: Thu, 2 May 2002 20:06:22 -0400 From: "Paul Elliott" <elliott.paul@worldnet.att.net> Subject: NSX SC Shootout Hi Wayne, What a great report. I really appreciate you posting it. It points out so many interesting things...Not the least of which is how much smoother the SC plots were than many of the OE plots (Like what the hell happened to vehicle #4?!!!) ! The shapes of the SC curves is indeed telling....But, to compare apples to apples, dont we really need to see the performance of all done at the same PSI level? The fact that the CF blower is only running at 4 psi, but with software for 9 psi I think is crucial, compared with the other 2 blowers each running at about 6 psi I believe...No doubt, the 'areas under the curves' would still be bigger, but I dont think the difference would be quite as great...And, the peak value of the CF blower would probably be closer to 400 rwhp at 6 psi, if he achieved the approx 20 hp per psi that I did on my M3 when I upgraded. Thanks for posting it.
