Saddle interior, black piano wood trim. My brother Jack Walsh is a sales man there and brought it down to show me. Call him at 908-685-0800 if you have any interest. I have no financial interest in the car other than to see my younger brother do well. He is a good guy and it is an awesome car. Michael Walsh 98 M3/4 RS America track car

Yes, there's one more very important step. Because the brake hose fittings have a tendency to corrode together, you should apply a high quality penetrating oil to all the unions you need to undo. Try to allow several hours for the penetrating oil to work. There are only two really good penetrating oils I know of for sure: Kroil (not readily available in stores) and PB Blaster. I believe that Würth may also make a good one, but I haven't tried it. In addition, you may find as I did that normal wrenches aren't always ideal for this job, because the hose fittings are relatively soft and tend to round of easily. Oddly enough an adjustable wrench often works better, since it can be adjusted for zero slop, whereas conventional wrenches always have some amount of play. If you have real difficulty gripping an old fitting then either a Vise-Grip or a Clench-Wrench (Sears) may come in handy as a backup. In all likelihood you won't have a problem if you've used penetrating oil, but it always helps to be prepared. Neil 96 M3

#3. Leaking differential - from Sean Ganess

Date: Sun, 5 May 2002 19:03:05 -0400 From: "Sean Ganess" <Sean.Ganess@lostcluster.net> Subject: Leaking differential Sometime last week I noticed much more cabin noise coming from what sounded like the back of the car. It was a deep, whirring noise. It was definitely rotational so I figured I would check out the wheels and drivetrain this weekend. Anyway, here's what I found: =20 http://www.lostcluster.net/pics/dscn0092.jpg =20 The picture is of my rear differential taken from directly underneath the spare tire (note the right side of the car is on a jackstand with the wheel removed). On the right side where the driveshaft connects, you'll notice that the various fittings are much darker than the left side. Running my finger across the surfaces at that location reveals oil all over it. Looks like differential fluid is leaking there. =20 Anyone experience this? If yes, I'm looking for a ballpark figure for the cost of repair. Suggestions? Should I fill up the differential with fluid before driving it to my mechanic? He's about a 20 miles away. =20 On a side note, while I was looking at the underbody, there is light rust on various parts (as you can see in the photo). What's the best way to treat this?

#4. FS - '98 M3/4 5 speed - from Dan Miley

Date: Sun, 05 May 2002 19:28:34 -0400 From: Dan Miley <dmiley@rcn.com> Subject: FS - '98 M3/4 5 speed A career change requires me to sell my very nice '98 M3/4. It is red, in excellent condition inside and out, and has 39.5K miles. It has lots of options - HK stereo, CD changer, split folding rear seat, dove gray heated power seats, computer, cruise, etc. It does NOT have a sunroof, which increases headroom a lot and makes the car lighter and stiffer. It has 17x8.5 10 spoke wheels all around and fairly new Bridgestone RE730s on all corners in 245/40-ZR17. The BMW warranty runs through July. This car has only been to one driving school and is completely stock except for UUC transmission mounts. With the stiffer M3/4 body and no SR, this would make a nice track car or a daily driver. Asking $26.9K. Car is located near Boston. Please e-mail for pictures. Thanks. --Dan

My advice is to go listen to as many exhausts out there. Where do you live? I'm sure there are local people around you with aftermarket exhausts. My AA gen III sounds pretty tame from inside the car, but I think it's a different story for those next to me or behind me :) It's definitely noticeable on the track where my buddies were in a different run group and they could hear my car as it went around. I live in NYC, btw. Chester --- Chris <ccurry@curry.org> wrote: > Looking for some aftermarket exhaust and was wondering if any could lend > suggestions.
