It is a bit louder than stock but not near as loud as my lwt flywheel ;) I used the push though pin mounts and it works great. Been over 6 months now with no problems. I know several race teams that mount aux fans that way too. I have a write and pics available that I just have to find. I'll send the link out too. Just my take on things. Just be prepared, spal fans are LOUD. You might be able to fit a curved blade fan on your car, it will be less LOUD. On my car, the supercharger pulley comes very close to the fan and fan shroud, there is no way the thicker curved blade fans will fit. Installing the fans is interesting. Some people use the little push pin thingies, that are plastic and slide through the radiator. I would not. I took out the radiator and drilled 4 holes in the lip around it and used the Spal mounting kit bolted it right up. The fan in the engine bay is there not only to cool the engine, but to manage airflow... I've found that lots of components in there get toasty warm without a fan, even though the coolant temp is fine. My engine bay might be hotter than others, though. I'll try to get a webpage up about it soon, I took a few pics. -kit -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ . ************************************************************* List Commands UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. If you go the route of the cams, that first 50HP is easy but the next 50HP? The slope starts to climb quickly. With an SC (is it really $6K? I only paid $5K for a turbo and got more like +120HP!) you can get to the +100HP mark more cheaply and also keep going from there. Throw on an aftercooler and/or water injection and you can get 375-400HP for an incremental cost (of course, the reliability starts to drop off..) -Matt --- Wayne Miller <m3@waynemiller.com> wrote: > > > I recognize that SC gives more "bang for the buck" > > I don't know that this is completely accurate. #3. Wheel suggestions - from Jim Bassett

Date: Thu, 16 May 2002 15:12:05 -0700 From: Jim Bassett <jimbassett@attbi.com> Subject: Wheel suggestions One of my long-range things to do for the race car has been to get new track wheels. I'm currently running on 7.5" BMW Motorsport wheels, and the car can accept up to a 9" wheels (as run by previous owner). Perusing the Tire Rack web site, they seem to have some pretty good deals on wheels. I'd like to get feedback about the following wheels: BBS RK (17x8 - $288) Borbet Type T (17x8 - $159) Kosei K1 Racing (17X8.5 - $169) SSR Integral (17x8 - $279) If you've used any of these wheels, liked or disliked them, I'd appreciate any feedback. Of course, it's only been 3 track days so far, but I like 'em! No quality complaints at all, they look cool with brake dust and only weigh 16.5 pounds. Any other opinions would be based on cosmetic preference only, so that may not help you much, but I'll be glad to give you an opinion if you want it. ;) To compare weights, since I'm sure that's a criteria, you can check out tons of weights at: http://www.wheelweights.net/ I'm not sure that they're all 100% accurate, but still should be good for comparison's sake. Way light in the 8.5 X 17 rim (16lbs.). I'm thinking about those as my track dedicated wheelset instead of my OE wheels that I'm current using. Nice to see them finally come out for us E36'ers. You may want to hit up an E30 digest or board to get opinions on the Kosei. #6. cams vs. SC - from kitwetzler@mindspring.com

Thoughts and/or experiences with either or both? well, Alan's car is definitely faster than a cammed car, by about 20 hp. Al's car probably makes about the same torque or possibly a bit worse. My car, in it's current iteration (~300 at the rear wheels) and 260 ft/lbs of torque is very entertaining. Remember, a cam kit is probably gonna be $500 - $1000 of install time, which closes up the gap. A supercharger is easy to install yourself. My Dinan kit was pretty easy to install, no need to mess with VANOS, etc. I've seen what can happen with a botched cam install... think snapped camshaft and valve going down when the piston went up... smack, ow. "hey, why doesn't my car start anymore? Why don't I have compression in any of my cylinders? What's that tinkle tinkle sound I hear when the starter runs?" :) $4000 for 50 hp, or $6000 for 100. (Also, my car made 223 at the rear wheels, with intake, SI and a uuc exhaust... I wouldn't be happy with only 27 more horsepower for $4000.) -kit -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .

They are excellent quality, strong and light weight (I personally weighed mine at 17 lbs. before they were balanced). Only dislike, the lug holes are snug (tight fit for some lug wrenches), though I have the right tools so it's no big deal to me. Bought mine from TireRack too...your right, good price! I'm certain that I'd be happy with the Eurosport cam kit; and, I lean in that direction based on my previous experiences with Josh/Eurosport and Dinan as well as the R&T Dinan M3 Comparo a few years back -- one stock with a Dinan Stage 2 suspension and exhaust; another with a Stage 3 suspension, SC (hi Joe), and exhaust; and a third with cams and a Stage 4 (?) track suspension. They were wowed by the SC car (they said it pulled like a Porsche Turbo, as I recall); but they liked the cammed car best. For the sake of this discussion, I'd just as soon assume that both upgrades cost the same. I don't think there's much dispute that 350 hp is preferable to 300 hp, if all other things are equal. The power delivery in both instances is fairly linear and only begins to manifest at or above 3500 rpm. And, I note that you're considering the addition of a SC as well. Other than cost, is there any downside to upgrading to a one rather than the other? Well, except for the fact they they didn't relieve the mounting face to drain off any water that accumulates in that area (i.e. "behind" the center caps, that I don't use anyway) ... not much of an issue for a track car, but annoying nonetheless. -- ______________________________________ Andrew E.
