#2. air conditioner problem - from russell

Date: Mon, 20 May 2002 19:11:14 -0700 (PDT) From: russell <driver8m3@yahoo.com> Subject: air conditioner problem today, while sitting stationary with the car on, i tried to turn on the AC. everything looked ok; blower level indicator lights came on, and even changed level depending on what temp i programmed in (as i keyed in a lower temp, the blower level increased, all the way to full power). problem was, nothing was coming out of the vents (yes, i checked, they were open). i tried all different configurations of temperature, air conditioner, heat, front defrost, etc. nothing caused anything to come out of the vents. finally, i gave up, but left it "on" (even though nothing was happening). after about 15 minutes of driving, the vents just started pumping out cold air again. i think it started working just as i hit the gas hard to pass someone. anyone have any idea what happened??? thanks, russell dakar 99 ===== "the state is the great fiction by which everyone seeks to live at the expense of everyone else" --frederic bastiat __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? #4. Re: more on spark plugs - from Michael Kelley

Date: Mon, 20 May 2002 23:23:13 -0700 From: "Michael Kelley" <mkelley@nc.rr.com> Subject: Re: more on spark plugs I've continued to roam around on Bosch and NGK websites and have concluded on the torque spec for 95-99 US M3 plugs........they are M14x1.25 with 5/8" hex and, without lubricant, they torque to 31 +/- 2 Nm or 23 +/- 1.5 ft/lb per BMW's spark plug application chart. The plugs listed for US E46 M3's (NGK DCPR8EKP) and Euro E36 95-98 3.2L M3's (NGK PKR7A) are M12x1.25 and torque to 17+/- 2.2 ft/lb. Here's the interesting thing....the BMW spark plug application chart, note 2 (in the lower right corner) states that "Standard Engines" use M14x1.25 plugs and "Motorsoprt Engines" use M12x1.25 plugs. As a cross-check, the E30 M3 uses a Bosch X6DC......sure enough, an M12x1.25 plug. So, unless you're using M12 thread plugs you don't really have a "Motorsport" engine. How's that for twisted logic? Here's an older version (minus the E46 M3/S54), check out special note 2 http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/sparkplugchart.jpg On Alan's point, his Euro plugs don't show on the NGK Design Symbols Chart....but I suspect a PKR7A is an M12x1.25, 19mm reach, 17mm (?) hex, "special design". There is a PJR7A available also, M12, 19mm reach, 19mm hex, about $9.00 at www.clubplug.net but not sure if 19mm hex socket will fit in the plug well. Sure enough, his PKR7A's are $20.99 each. Oh, one other thing....heat ranges. NGK ranges versus Bosch ranges are 180 degrees out. NGK runs 2 (hot) to 11(cold) while Bosch runs 2 (cold) to 10 (hot). Go figure. Date: Tue, 21 May 2002 10:12:53 -0500 From: "Jimenez, Ariel" <ariel@megapathdsl.net> Subject: jack pad and deflector List, I noticed this weekend while I was changing out my suspension that the passenger side rear hockey puck was missing. Also, behind the hockey puck was some sort of deflector/undertray type piece that looked like it was ripped off. From previous posts, I found the part number for the hockey puck to be 51 71 1 960 752. Does anyone know the part number for the deflector/undertray piece? Thanks Ariel 99 Titanium M3/2

#10. [E36M3] Replacing Climate Control? - from twisty M3
Top
Date: Tue, 21 May 2002 09:39:15 -0700 From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: [E36M3] Replacing Climate Control? Happy Tuesday to all! This is right in line with the problem that Russel posted yesterday. I've also had the same problem he described with his climate control, but mine's been on the outs (i.e. never goes up to full blower power, even when the display is all the way up) constantly since autumn. It was easy to deal with, as I live in a mild climate and even on cold days, the cabin heated up suffeciently without ful-blown power. Now, however, the temps are creeping up and most of the tracks I go to are in the middle of the desert, so AC is becoming more and more desireable... with a useful blower that is. Mine doesn't seem to stem for a fuse, relay or microfilter, so a mechanic suggested replacing the actual console. At $200+ for a new one, it's not an inexpensive solution, so if someone has better ideas before I go that route, please speak up (though I assume the digital climate controls can be sold to upgraders, and/or purchased from newly stipped club racers?). If I do go with replacing it, which I think I will, Is it a pretty simple operation. Just remove the old and plug in the new? Anyone have a write up on the R/R, or should I finally drop the $50-$60 on a Bentley? ;) (if that particular procedure is in there) Also, anyone out there have a working digital climate control console they're looking to part with? Thanks, Jonathan L. _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
