#1. What am I missing? - from Steve Klein

Date: Wed, 22 May 2002 12:54:04 -0500 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: What am I missing? Oh wise wuns- All the bits for the TC Kline Streetline kit are now in my possession, and as I prepare to do the big overhaul, some things puzzle me. Mainly the front shock/strut assembly. The shock has a threaded insert on the bottom, but when I removed the wheel to do a visual familiarization with the strut, I could not locate the corresponding bolt. After musing at the coffee shop for a bit, I concluded that it must be fixed in the bottom of the strut housing, and once removed, the old shock will unscrew and lift out, with the new one installed in a reverse fashion. Is this correct? I also got their MonoBall RSM's with the kit, but no gasket. Am I correct in remembering that one is needed? I seem to remember someone mentioning making one out of cardboard. And for those with this setup, by how much did you trim the bump stops, and was that off the top or bottom? The front coils are 50410.55's, and the insert says .75" 'when lowering springs are installed...' I was under the impression that these springs kept the stock ride height. Lastly, my venture will consist of RTB's, CA's/Bushings, RSM's, shocks and springs. Where should I apply Loc-Tite? And no, I won't apply it to myself. Thanks for your help, Steve '95 M3 with a floaty feel '00ish 328ci w/racing suspension/transmission, soft R compounds, stage 3 turbo, stage 3 lightweight kit, ported, balanced, fuzzy dice. . .oh, wait. That's my Grand Turismo 3 car.

Anyone > know why they are there? Any tips on removal? Looks like I have to remove > the hub. Why would you remove the dust shields? Do you really think they will allow more air to get to the rotor. I have a tendency to believe that the BMW engineers know what they are doing when they put this stuff in place. Unless you are putting in ducts with proper backing plates, I wouldn't remove the dust shields. Unless you are talking about those aftermarket brake dust shields, then I would question why you ever put them on in the first place ;-) Just kidding. Later, Rich

Is this correct? You'll have to cut the top of the stock struts off and pull out the inner guts. You'll also have to drill a hole in the bottom of the strut in order to have the bolt go into the Koni insert. A bit more involved that you're original perception. > I also got their MonoBall RSM's with the kit, but no gasket. Am I > correct in remembering that one is needed? Does anyone have the part number for the AC fan resistor? It is very strange, but both my fan resister and my clock on the OBC have gone out. I directly attribute this to all of you who just had the same problems. I think my car is having sympathy pains. : ) Thanks, Rob PS. I know this is way OT, but I just wanted to share that I got rid of our e320 and just upgraded to a new Silver E430 sport. It is sweet! : )

#6. List decals order info - from Sue Kraft

Date: Wed, 22 May 2002 14:24:28 -0500 From: Sue Kraft <suekraft@new.rr.com> Subject: List decals order info Just got the list decals and they turned out great. Remember that these are vinyl cling, so there is no adhesive. They are designed to be placed on the inside of the window. With a little water/windex, you can squeegee out any bubbles from behind the cling. Price is the same as quoted earlier - 2/$10. Either check or cash is fine, and should be sent to: Sue Kraft 835 Neufeld St. Green Bay, Wi 54304 Would also be great if everyone could remember to enclose a self addressed, stamped envelope with payment, as this will greatly expedite shipping, and help defray the cost as well. Just in case you missed it in my post yesterday, here's a picture of one of the decals installed on Ben Liaw's car http://www.bmw-m.net/decal.htm Any questions? Please let me know. And thanks everyone for supporting the list! Your help is much appreciated. Suzy suekraft@new.rr.com

I know this topic has been covered over and over, but does anyone have a list of part numbers handy for the whole plastic (pretty cheesy if you ask me) mess under there including the pork chops? Thanks in advance, Scott 96M3/2

Thanks for your reply, Chester- Can you elaborate a bit on the structure of the strut and removal of the old shock? I'm trying to be in possession of as many tools and as much knowledge as possible when I go into this. Steve

The PF 97s are a Performance Friction product, though I did buy mine from Porterfield. Porterfield actually recommended them over their own pad for my application, which is a stock 95 except for Yoko A032R tires at open track days and driver schools. I think the PF 97s are fantastic. They made more of a difference than the tires do. I use them strictly as a track pad, fronts only. They stop great cold too, but the rattle, squeal and dusting make the stock pad a much better choice for daily use. Carl M. I'm still using stock pads and think > I may have better luck with track pads. What are your recommendations? We just ran the Carbotech Panthers in our UUC Big Brake kit at the Open Track Challenge. Those Carbotechs were amazing. One of our teammates in an MCoupe put a set on his stock calipers and rotors and felt just as good about them as we did. One thing to watch out for with a pad as aggressive as the carbotechs is excessive wear when they're cold. We completely ate a set of rotors in the 7 days of track driving plus the 3-4k miles of street driving. -peterg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com
