Date: Wed, 29 May 2002 10:56:46 US/Pacific From: peter@guagenti.com Subject: FS or Trade: H&R 5mm Spacers and Lugs Subject line says it all. I've got a pair of 5mm spacers and the matching wheel bolts available for sale or trade. Turner sells this set for $75. I'm asking either $40, or will offer trade plus cash for your 10mm or 15mm spacers. -peterg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com

My 98 M3 is demanding an Inspection 1. IIRC this should be within my modest abilities to tackle myself. Does anyone know of a write up somewhere for what needs to be done for Inspection 1. thanks, jeff 98 M3/4

The brake wear sensor has nothing to do with the ABS system. The ABS system uses it's own sensors located at each wheel. The brake wear sensors are located on the left front and the right rear only. Unless your brake wear light is illuminated on the dash (again, different from the ABS light), both sensors are alright or you have simply wired the sensor wires together. Not sure what you mean exactly when you refer to removing "the only functioning brake sensor" or to "plenty of clearance"? I have not heard before of the ABS light illuminating and going out in this fashion so I really can't help you much. Also, are you referring to the ABS light as the anti-lock braking system or the ABS light which some are referring to the air bag system. I assume you are properly referring to the ABS light as the anti-lock braking system for this exercise. Later, Rich

Date: Wed, 29 May 2002 14:25:20 -0400 From: "Wayne Miller" <m3@waynemiller.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Pads replaced on Rogue Kit I also have the Rogue Engineering brake kit and my ABS light (yes, the ABS light and not the brake sensor light) comes on now and then. It usually goes away when I turn off the ignition and then restart the car but recently it has stayed on more often. I did get it, although rarely, before I put on the brake kit and when I brought it to the dealer, they said that they couldn't do anything because I didn't have the stock brakes. I put the stock brakes back in the car and they then said that the ABS light was coming on because I had my traction control system removed from the car. This simply isn't true because one has nothing to do with the other but I have it in writing that that was their excuse. I then put the big brakes back on and put the traction control back in (because I was going to a rainy track day so it was just-in-case) and the light still comes on. I am taking it in next week to see what the excuse is this time and I'll keep everyone posted. -Wayne -----Original Message----- From: Dorffer, Rich [mailto:RDORFFER@CleIndians.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 29, 2002 2:14 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] Pads replaced on Rogue Kit Date: Wed, 29 May 2002 14:06:30 -0400 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: Pads replaced on Rogue Kit Jason asks> > #2 The ABS light came on after about 3 minutes > of driving and braking... #5. Sticky Shifter - from Mike Cornwell
Top
Date: Wed, 29 May 2002 11:44:15 -0700 (PDT) From: Mike Cornwell <mcornwell@yahoo.com> Subject: Sticky Shifter Within the last few thousand miles, I started to notice that my 5 speed shifter in my '98 M3 (56,000 miles) wouldn't return to the central neutral position like it used to all the time. It used to have kinda a rubber band feel to it, where if you were in fifth, and took it out of gear, the shifter would spring back to the left (and be below the 3rd gear gate), now it usually just stays below fifth, and needs a tap return to that position. I had the car into Bavarian Mastercare here in San Diego a few weeks ago for Inspection 2, and pointed it out to them. They changed tranny and diff fluids with BMW fluid, but he problem still persists, and they didn't seem to have any suggestions. Anyone had this and found an (easy) fix? -Mike __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com

Sounds like the tension bushing in the selector rod gear joint is shot. We find this common place in cars with close to 50k miles or more than 5 years of age. We have a list of parts posted for just such a fix on our website. First, the good news: I, too, have this problem on the '98 (~114K miles). Now, the bad(?) news: I haven't found a way to fix it. My mechanic says it's internal to the transmission. Jim Bassett

I just recently installed the RE WSR and replaced the rod joint. Got rid of the in-gear wobble (back to "snick-snick"), and for a few days I thought the stickiness was gone as well. But, alas, it came back this morning. The WSR feels great, BTW, and since I prefer the ergonomics of the stock shift knob, this is a great solution for me. And despite the "stickiness", replacing the rod joint was a great tip. The shifter feels brand new again - it's almost like driving a new car <g>. If you've got anymore ideas, Ben, I'd be glad to hear 'em. Cheers, Jim Bassett

Maybe it's just me, but does anyone else feel that 1.3 Qts. in the transmission is a little light on the quantity side? Hey, I'm not one to second-guess the engineers at BMW, they obviously know a thing or two about this, I was just a little surprised at how little lubricant is required. My old toploader took 3 or more Qts and was physically about the same size as the BMW 5 speed (is it a Getrag, I could look, but don't care that much) Mel -----Original Message----- From: Jim Bassett [mailto:jimbassett@attbi.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 29, 2002 12:24 PM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] Mobil 1 Questions Date: Wed, 29 May 2002 10:22:21 -0700 From: Jim Bassett <jimbassett@attbi.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Mobil 1 Questions At 06:53 AM 5/29/02, JUSTIN GERRY wrote: >Capacity in the diff is about 1.5 to 2 quarts, tranny is about 3 or 4 >quarts right?
