Several years ago I was driving a Jeep CJ. It had passed several inspections including the first when I moved to NJ. About the third inspection they failed it because the front cage blocked access to the emergency brake. Nothing had changed since I moved to NJ. Immediately appealed to the supervisor, showed him nothing had changed, and he passed it. Luckily I moved to upstate NY before the next inspection. I wasn't worried about hitting the bars because 1. They all had high impact foam coverings 2. Jeep had 4" lap, 2" shoulder, and 2" anti-submarine belts. 3. Rear had full 3 point belts. So, I need to return my leased '99 M3 on Sunday. BMW will definitely charge me for rear tires, and possibly for front ones ($200/tire). I am looking for used tires, tread > 5/32" This could work if you want to 1. Want to swap same wheels with mounted tires. I have M-Contours (no curb rash). Maybe you have some curb rash that BMW won't mind. 2. Have a set of used tires sitting in your garage I could offer something out of: 1. Cash 2. Ellipsoid euro lights (used) 3. Front set of Brembo rotors (new) 4. Bentley manual (used, like new) 5. >$100 worth of misc brake hardware/sensors/clips/etc (new) 6. Full set of PF97s (1 school, I drive like a GrandMa :-)[1] 7. Nikon Coolpix 990 (used, refurbished, like new) 8. Any other random M3-specific hardware i have lying around Understand that there is limited amount of money I can save on tire fines, so the deal would have to reflect that to be interesting. Email if you are interested. Gleb Footnotes: [1] I will only sell pads to someone I know (liability concerns)

#5. Gasoline Smell - from Ron Buchalski
Top
Date: Fri, 31 May 2002 14:43:36 +0000 From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> Subject: Gasoline Smell Last week, when I drove my car ('95 M3, 10/94 build), there was a strong smell of gasoline inside the car. I searched the 'net and found some postings about this, and exchanged email with an E36 M3 list member who had posted the info. He stated that it was probably the result of broken or cracked plastic tube fittings that feed either the fuel pump (driver's side) or level detector (right side), and these are found under the rear seat, beneath round metal covers. Well, last night I pulled the rear seat and removed both covers, and could find no traces of fuel. In fact, the dust in those areas seems to indicate that no liquid fuel has ever leaked there. I started the car, let it run for five minutes, and even revved it a several times, but found no signs of fuel leakage, and did not detect the smell of fuel. I even checked under the hood (no fuel vapors detected at all), and looked underneath the car for leaks, but didn't find anything. So, now I'm puzzled. What other things should be checked? Thanks, -rb _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com

If so, is that due to the cam/injectors/etc or your foot? No there wasn't a major drop in my mileage but the bit that there was is most likely due to my right foot. The acceleration between 5,500 RPM and 7,000 RPM is so much fun that I keep dropping to 3rd on the highway just to feel it. Driving back from Watkins Glen, I averaged almost 22 MPG and that was pulling my trailer and generally cruising in the 80-90 MPH range with bursts up to 110 MPH. -Wayne

Ambient air from passing car or car I'm following which where the driver was fuel pump impared. (I notice cigarettes and cigars also) 2. Spilled fuel or overfilled fuel tank. As it expands it can overwhelm the charcoal canister. 3. Expanding gas if hot day and tank recently filled. See 2 4. Gas on hands from filling tank.(Takes days to get out of gloves, I'm in upstate NY) 5. Gas on shoes from stepping in gas some other motorist spilled (Maybe why NJ doesn't allow self service?) Since the problem isn't repeatable, I'd guess 1 or 2. Sometimes it's not the car. The fact that I can smell someone driving in front of me smoking a cigarette or a cigar makes me wonder how they could even tolerate the smell. YUCK! Of course, no offense to those who smoke...but you guys should really kick the habit. On a side note, at a driver school last year, I saw this old gentleman filling his car with race gas from one of those jugs. He was holding a burning cigar in the same hand he was handling the jug with. I guess he was testing the resistance to combustion of the higher octanes, eh? Not exactly sure how that came about, but my averages went from 14-16MPG to around 18-20MPG. On the track this weekend I saw about 8MPG, but that doesn't count. ;-) -peterh ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com

When it drops below a certain level, it will not leak at the sender. So...perhaps a not so obvious question to all, is your tank full? Interesting clue though about the collected dust you observed. My guess based on that statement is that it is not your sender. And you're there to clearly see it all and I'm not! I'm out of ideas...short of keep the tank full and looking around some more...good luck on it! - Skip Ron Buchalski wrote: > > Date: Fri, 31 May 2002 14:43:36 +0000 > From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> > Subject: Gasoline Smell > > Last week, when I drove my car ('95 M3, 10/94 build), there was a strong > smell of gasoline inside the car.
