Was wondering if anyone can tell me if this will fit on my 99 M3. BMP shows that there are two different systems for M3s and non-M3 e36's. Does anyone here know if there is a difference? I know that it is common practice to put a M3 muffler on a non-M3. Just looking to go the other way. #3. FS: E36M3/E36 parts -- ellipsoids, rotors, PF97s, bentley manual, - from Gleb Arshinov

Date: Tue, 04 Jun 2002 20:00:38 -0700 From: Gleb Arshinov <gleb@barsook.com> Subject: FS: E36M3/E36 parts -- ellipsoids, rotors, PF97s, bentley manual, brake hardware, trunk net, etc. I will give preference to SF Bay Area locals and to folks who contacted me earlier. Email if interested. Please note if you are local or not. Parts can be picked up at my home (Foster City), work (Cupertino). I can even deliver these to your door if you are close enough. If I have to ship, I'll charge you actual shipping & handling. Expect fairly significant shipping costs for ellipsoids and rotors. Payment: cash or Paypal I tried to price everything fairly, so prices are pretty firm, but if you want to make an offer feel free. To see the parts: http://www.arshinov.com/driving/cars/m3/parts_forsale/ 1. Euro headlights. Includes Conforti high temp wire extensions (for 100W bulbs) and excellent instructions by josh@eurosport. Used. Good condition. $300 Some small pits on the glass -- consistent with 3 years on the car/should not affect illumination. Always taped @ driving schools. I've left enough wire at the back of headlight barrel connectors so you could crimp the wires for easier installation (if desired). Or you could buy pins and rewire the connector. You should probably replace rubber weather boots either way. I am including original rubber boots that came with Bekker's kit, but you should really get smaller ones from a BMW dealer. I will also include 1 retaining bolt that is easy to lose during installation (ask me how I know :-) 2. E36 Bentley manual. Used. Mint condition. $40 If you do any wrenching on E36 this manual is a must. 3. Brake hardware spares. New. $60 total Sensors (front/back), clips (front/back), rotor retaining hex bolt, caliper bolt protective cap. List for these 23.51, 21.59, 18.98, 18.26, 3.16, 3.67 respectively. I will sell these for 33% off list. If you do your own brakes I'd recommend getting these, as sooner or later you *will* lose one of these parts (personal experience -- Donna, thanks for the clip :-) 4. BMW 5w-30 Synthetic Oil. New. $Free. 5. Set of front E36 M3 Brembo rotors. New. $85 Plane-Jane rotors. No holes, no slots, no freezer burn ... 6. Full set of PF97 pads. Used. $215 You *must* *sign* *liability* *waiver* to get these. Used for 1 school (12-13mm front, 10-11m rear left). There are ~1mm deep scratches on the pad material on some pads. I suspect this is normal wear pattern for these pads, but don't know for sure. 7. E36 trunk net. Used. Excellent condition. $45. This one is far superior of all other nets I've seen. The net itself is elastic. Original storage cylinder included. Lets you play Schumi with a full load of groceries in the trunk. Isn't that what owning a BMW supposed to be about? Highly recommended. List is $85. 8. Front bumper rubber strip. Used. $5 This is the part on front bumper which says BMW. This is primarily useful if you want to temporarily mount front license plate, and then replace it with original strip (without holes). Comes with all the hardware necessary to temporarily mount the plate (2 screws and washers). Has 2 holes in it. Not sure if this M3 specific or fits all E36s. 9. A set of BMW OE 24" wiper inserts (cut to measure). New. $Free These were lying around in the garage for 1/2 year, so condition is unknown. List $19.00 Gleb

#4. 95 M3 - stupid water pumps - from Chris Papademetrious
Top
Date: Tue, 04 Jun 2002 23:00:47 -0400 From: Chris Papademetrious <chrispy@ieee.org> Subject: 95 M3 - stupid water pumps Blah. After making a successful 180 mile round-trip venture into NJ and back, my M3 decided to pitch a fit. My buddy and I decided to go out for dinner this evening, and we took my car so he could feel the difference the new RE flywheel/clutch makes. Not more than four miles from my house, I see a red light on the dash and look down, and see the temperature needle is pegged. We stop on the side of the road and note that the engine is very hot, and the radiator is ice cold. I limped it back to my house, shutting the car down and coasting in gear with the throttle depressed, so that the engine would act as an air pump to cool itself off. I'd key it back on just long enough to run the motor and build up speed so I could coast again. (The needle never budged from the red block.) We pop the hood in my driveway and coolant boiled over everywhere. About 20 seconds from my driveway, the check engine light came on. Hopefully this means it was only starting to get REALLY hot at that point. I'm not sure what the significance of that light was. Here's the irony. At the previous Inspection II, my mechanic suggested replacing the water pump with the new metal impeller style because it was a better design. Since then, I've read on this list that this has been superceded yet again by a newer plastic style. My original factory pump was working fine, and we just replaced it as preventative maintenance. I wonder if that was a wise thing to do after all? - Chris

I'm posting for a friend who is interested in buying an E36 M3 in the Philly/South Jersey area. He wants to know a good place to get the car serviced before he buys to help him with pre-purchase inspection and someone he can trust to service the car properly once he buys. Any recommendations for a mechanic or shop in the Philly/South Jersey area? Also, anyone with an E36 M3 for sale in the area let me know and I'll pass the info on. Thanks. Greg

Has anybody had experience = with removing a powerdyne supercharger (like a Dinan installed one) and = who could give me some tips off-line? I suspect it is held to the = mounting hardware by eight bolts around the upper periphery and could be = dropped down to release the belt. Advice? Joe Dyer

Date: Wed, 05 Jun 2002 08:58:52 -0400 From: RFKoby@aol.com Subject: RE: catastrophic engine failure this engine failure has EVERYTHING to do with taking your car to the track, or autoX. But more so, when was the last time you spun out and stalled the engine?? anytime the car spins and stalls the engine, if you do not put both feet in (clutch and brake), you have the possibility of rotating the engine backwards at speed.... as you stated, there is nothing to keep the nut from coming off of the oil pump gear. If you spin the engine backwards, this nut will loosen and unthread itself. As long as you do not spin the engine backwards there is no problem with the nut and oil pump. Under normal conditions, the engine turning in the correct direction will keep this nut tight > Date: Tue, 4 Jun 2002 21:17:39 -0500 > From: "M-Power" <M-Power@austin.rr.com> > Subject: Catastrophic Engine Failure > > Memorial Day Weekend I had a catastrophic loss of oil pressure that > completely destroyed the engine in my 1999 M3 with only 57K-58K miles.
