Releasing the E-brake (never would have occurred to me on my own) did the trick. Suspension dropped right down and springs lifted right out. thanks again jeff

Id like to thank everyone involved for not only putting it together, but actually following through with it. Happy to be a part of this list, now, much happier to flaunt it. It may be a simple as your condenser not getting enough airflow at idle. This is for my E36 M3 so it has the R-134a, all my other E30s stil have R-12. On my 91 M3 (I am the original owner), the a.c system has never been touched. It has the orginal R12 in the system. I have never had any seal leaks.... Even in Hotlanta 90+ with 70% hum. The a/c in that car is awesome. It goes to 36 deg. while moving and 41 @ idle!! So MY E30 M3 is actually awesome. Now my e30 325ic , I am the second owner and the previous owner is from Texas, it has had a new Nippo Compressor and some other work on the a/c done. When I brought the car 4 yrs ago, it was cold, not as cold as the M3 BUT cold enough for a converitble. BUT this summer, idle temp has creeped up to 55deg. BUT moving temp is still a cool 45 deg. I check all these temps using a commerical HVAC digital temp. probe with a 1 deg. accurracy and every second update. On the E36, its the only car I have that has R134 so I wanted to see if anyone has done the re-charge themselves using the common OTC kits. thanks -- Tim Ng 95 YELA/BUZZN/M3 92 325ic M-Tech "ULTIMATE TANNING MACHINE" 91///M3 "SUNNY DAY CAR" 88///M3 "TRACK CAR" AWESOME 2.5 ENGINE

It does not look like it is the head gasket. I have been running without the internal guts of the thermostat for the last couple of weeks due to it sticking at a previous track event. I just got a new 88C thermostat and installed it. I took the car on the highway for 10+ miles keeping the RPMs between 5K and 7K and varying the engine load by alternating full throttle and part throttle. The temp did not budge past halfway. In my particular case, it looks like not running with a functioning thermostat in combination with not running the air duct/underpanel may have caused the problem. I plan on installing a new radiator cap as well and probably installing the 80C auxiliary fan switch as added insurance. Anyway, I have a track event in a couple of weeks where I can subject the car to a racing-type environment to test for sure, but I am keeping my fingers crossed! I will let you all know the outcome if it indeed turns out to be the head gasket. Geof

It is possible to puke out coolant through the radiator cap without overheating. Time will tell, but I'll replace the radiator cap and cross my fingers in the meantime. #9. Soft Steering? - from Steve Klein
Top
Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2002 16:34:51 -0500 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: Soft Steering? Hello, All- A question: What could be some probable causes of 'soft' steering. The wheel feels light (as in no loss of power assist) but the ratio of turning in relation to rotation of the steering wheel seems slower. I did the front suspension 8 days ago and I'm going to lift the front end again to check my work and all relevant components in about an hour. Nothing felt lose in the handling this morning, just slow(er) to respond to steering input. And driving home on the highway in the rain from the airport yesterday was VERY scary. The car felt like it was floating over any water, even thin glazing, and would deflect like mad over deeper stuff. I've got Pilots all round, and the rears have about 2K on them and the fronts have twice the depth of Lincoln's head using the Penny Test. Handling was fine the last time it rained, so I'm ruling out the tires and focusing on the work I did (Koni cut 'n gut, H&R springs, CA's and bushings). Any thoughts of what to look for before I go in are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve

#10. sway bar bushings - from Paul Elliott

Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2002 19:45:50 -0400 From: "Paul Elliott" <elliott.paul@worldnet.att.net> Subject: sway bar bushings I got a chance to take a look at my front left sway bar rubber bushing yesterday, and it looked a little deformed, squished, and stressed to me. I could see the split in the bushing clearly, but one side was sticking out of the bushing brace further than the other, and sort of twisted. If it were alive, Id say it looked as though it were 'pained'. Would you say this is normal, that it needs replacement, or somewhere in between? Thanks.
