The Bentley manual details the wiring color perfectly. Don't have mine handy so I can't check, but let me know if you need me to. Just make sure the connectors are secure and tight and that the euro to us spec converter is secure if going to a standard us spec trailer. I get intermittend tail light failure warnings if the light converter bounces around. Looking to confirm that 36 11 2 227 194 is the part number for the front rim of a 98 M3 coupe (staggered widths). Split 10 spoke, do not know the BMW designation of the rim style - the basic rim. Looking for confirmation of part number, so I can determine that the shop is out of their minds asking $458 for a "used, but like new" rim. Thanks for any help you can provide! Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2002 22:22:46 -0700 From: Scott Chan <s_chan@pacbell.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Need Help with Cooling Problems (Long) I blew a head gasket on my '95 M3 last month. It looked like swiss cheese! Crossed my fingers and replaced it and raced it this weekend. Saw a tiny bit of coolant stain after the race, but no measureable loss. I checked out the coolant gas with the sniff tester, and thankfully no CO detected. However, the overflow bottle neck is distorted from the coolant overpressure situation, so that's probably where the drops escaped. So I guess it will have to be replaced. When replacing the head gasket, it is critical that you follow the factory procedure for torquing the bolts. It is a three-stage process. I also used some 3M head gasket adhesive for good measure. We'll see how long this holds up. --Scott

Scott and Geof really know how to make a '95 M3 move! I felt just a little like Luke in the presence of the little green guy. "Plant the gas pedal you must, yes! Speed you will see." I appreciate both of them having mechanical difficulties so that I could take third in class; it sounds so much better than "last place". It was even more fun because my master cylinder was going south during the feature race. Now, that's excitement! All in all, a great time. If you're on the fence about CCA Club Racing, do it! #9. [E36M3] Soft Steering? - from Steve Klein

Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2002 16:35:24 -0500 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: [E36M3] Soft Steering? Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2002 16:34:51 -0500 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: Soft Steering? Hello, All- A question: What could be some probable causes of 'soft' steering. The wheel feels light (as in no loss of power assist) but the ratio of turning in relation to rotation of the steering wheel seems slower. I did the front suspension 8 days ago and I'm going to lift the front end again to check my work and all relevant components in about an hour. Nothing felt lose in the handling this morning, just slow(er) to respond to steering input. And driving home on the highway in the rain from the airport yesterday was VERY scary. The car felt like it was floating over any water, even thin glazing, and would deflect like mad over deeper stuff. I've got Pilots all round, and the rears have about 2K on them and the fronts have twice the depth of Lincoln's head using the Penny Test. Handling was fine the last time it rained, so I'm ruling out the tires and focusing on the work I did (Koni cut 'n gut, H&R springs, CA's and bushings). Any thoughts of what to look for before I go in are greatly appreciated. Date: Tue, 11 Jun 2002 07:57:57 -0400 From: "Wayne Miller" <m3@waynemiller.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Rear lights pinouts / cable colors - Ah, Ha! When I wired up my trailer lights a few years ago way before I ever built my trailer and I kept some notes because I had always planned on doing a write-up. The wiring piece of paper was sitting on my desk for well over a year and now, when I needed it, I couldn't find it - at first. I used a Draw-Tite ModuLite Trailer Light Power Module #18187 because this one isolates the trailer light operation from the tow vehicles electrical system. I used this one because I didn't want to run into any electrical problems and since the battery is right there, it was easy to wire up. The dealer also warned me that I may void my electrical system warranty if I used the other kind. I mounted it right on the top of the plastic piece behind the taillight (on the small flat area on the top) and, with some careful dremeling, it fit quite well and all of the wires are hidden. I know that I took some digital pictures but I can't find them right now. The wiring was as follows: Left blinker: Blue/Green Right blinker: Blue/Brown Right brake: Blue/Red Right taillight: Green/Yellow So far, I have had no troubles at all and no OBC messages. Good luck and feel free to ask any questions, -Wayne -----Original Message----- From: Andrej Dolenc [mailto:adolenc@erols.com] Sent: Monday, June 10, 2002 10:35 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] Rear lights pinouts / cable colors Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2002 22:35:39 -0400 From: Andrej Dolenc <adolenc@erols.com> Subject: Rear lights pinouts / cable colors Gruppe, I just installed the Da'lan hitch on my '97 M3, now the only piece left to finish is to install the lights converter / connection.
