#1. ATE Super Blue - from ERogers005@aol.com
Top
Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2002 22:32:06 EDT From: ERogers005@aol.com Subject: ATE Super Blue A previous post talked about the discontinuance of ATE Super Blue. Following is another data point from the distributor who supplies H&B in Berkeley: ATE has in fact discontinued the Super Blue Brake Fluid. In >>September at Automechanika they are going to be introducing the new >>ATE Fluid >>5.1. This will be an amber colored fluid that will have better all >>around specs than the Super Blue and Super Gold fluid. The only >>thing that they >>have told us about the specs is that it will not be a silicone >>based fluid. There are no flyers or other information out at the >>time. First orders will >>be placed at the end of September after the Frankfurt show. >>We have scheduled out orders of the Super Blue fluid until the end >>of the year, which should allow us to have ample stock into next >>year, allowing >>for a smooth transition to the new fluid. There is no need to blow >>out our current stock, because we would like to have stock on the >>shelf for the >>remainder of the year. The Super Gold fluid will stay in their >>program as is. I recently ordered Water Wetter from Eurasian but I found out that Pep boys stocks it and for less. I bought SuperBlue from Eurasian for about $9/can which was(is?) the cheapest I've found. But I did order 6 cans at the time. I use Castrol SynTec so can't help you with Mobil-1. -Bobby ----- Original Message ----- > Date: Tue, 11 Jun 2002 16:49:49 -0500 > From: "Eric ///M Foster" <e36m3digest@jedinite.com> > Subject: Best place to buy fluids right now? > > Time to restock fluids for Track Season. > > Interested in picking up the following, at the least possible impact to the > track-time-budget: > > Water Wetter > Redline ATF > Decent brake fluid (SuperBlue or better) > Decent synthetic oil (Mobil-1 or better) > > Anyone have any suggestions for locations currently running decent specials > on any/all of the above? > > Thanks, > > Eric Foster > http://bmw.jedinite.com > ************************************************************* List Commands UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. That's why NASCAR teams employ former football players as pit crew. I think a 6-pump is better suited for paddock and garage use. Another source was selling aluminum jacks at Willow Springs last weekend for $379. p.s., how did you like running at WS? --Scott

I've had it for a couple of years now and it's great. They hydraulics are very well made and the release mechanism is very smooth unlike the cheaper brands where you can drop your car if you're not careful with the release. It's great for the track and for home use. -Bobby ----- Original Message ----- > Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2002 15:39:22 -0700 (PDT) > From: Jason Knight <knight2244@yahoo.com> > Subject: Racing / Light weight jack > > All, my first anniversary is approaching, and once > again I get to reap the benefits of having a wife with > a race car. Date: Fri, 14 Jun 2002 01:31:38 -0400 From: Robert Chay <rchay@mindspring.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] New oil, no burning! Lots of people have mentioned less oil burning after switching brands. I've always used SynTec 5w50 and have never burned any oil... ever. Castrol had detergents in their oil that cleans your engine. Also, I run a couple of tanks of Chevron gas per month too. I think the slower revs are from the weight of the oil. You should try the 5w50 from Castrol. I noticed that when I used 10w40, I got worse gas mileage and the engine felt a little sluggish. Switched back to 5w50 and all was well with the world again. I've used this at Buttonwillow and Willow Springs during the summer (100+ deg weather) and never had any lifter tick. Of course I had 8 qts in there too. -Bobby ----- Original Message ----- > Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2002 12:25:39 -0700 > From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> > Subject: [E36M3] New oil, no burning! > > Forgot to post this earlier... #8. Nasty clunking from the rear - from Kit Wetzler

Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2002 23:21:58 -0700 From: Kit Wetzler <kitwetzler@mindspring.com> Subject: Nasty clunking from the rear Doh. I have a Big Nasty Clunk from the rear under hard acceleration. I'm thinking that maybe one of my Powerflex toe control bushings died? Not sure. It's not there if I don't romp on it... (situations that would give me wheel hop now give me Big Huge Bad Sounds) Doesn't do it over bumps, all the subframe bolts are there and accounted for, no cracks, exhaust is firmly tightened. This wasn't a normal clunking, this was the hand of God beating on the bottom of my car as I accelerated... Friend said he saw sparks out of the rear end. Something is seriously busted. I also get a clunk when I am not perfectly smooth starting off. Could the diff bushings have died? Err... I am at a loss. Sufbrame ripped out? I'd think that would be obvious. Maybe the trailing arm mounts have failed? I'd expect they'd be hanging down. Maybe the powerflex bushings died. Might be time to get some spacers from ground control. :( *Sigh* stupid car. Would love to hear suggestions. Email me off the list and I'll post a summary of the findings. -kit 97 m3/4, busted

It is possible to puke out coolant through the radiator cap without overheating. Time will tell, but I'll replace the radiator cap and cross my fingers in the meantime.
