Ron, I've been one of the proponents of CRC goop, as it worked on notoriosly noisy HPS pads for me. But, as I found out a few weeks back, and as you've already found out, it's not the ideal solution for cars that do double duty as a track rat and daily driver. After a few hundred miles on the track, when I was putting my street tires back on, the last thing I was in the mood for was cleaning bits of dried goop to get back to my squeak free HPS. So, now my HPS squeal like a freaking school bus. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. :) BTW, I think the key is to silence is not to be shy with the goop. Pile it on! I use two coats, one thin one on the entire backing surface the night before the install, then a mega gooping the during the install. And, hey, it was sorta nice having something red behind the wheels! Jeff 97 M3/4, with squealing brakes

#3. [E36M3] Factory Front and Rear Camber Settings? - from ChuckBrazeau@aol.com

Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2002 23:29:49 -0400 From: ChuckBrazeau@aol.com Subject: Factory Front and Rear Camber Settings? I've searched through the archives for over an hour trying to find what the factory front and rear camber settings are, but i can only find recommendations for increasing the camber. I'm about to install some Bilstein struts/shocks (OEM springs) and wanted to check the camber myself with my Longacre camber/caster bubble gauge in my garage for reference before taking the car to an alignment shop to have them check it on the rack before the install and then align it afterwards, but i'd like to know before hand what the camber specs are supposed to be. Here's what my car has now for camber (approximations with bubble gauge): Front Left: neg .85 Front Right: neg .85 Rear Left: neg .85 Rear Right: neg 1.20 <--!!! I also checked these settings from the bottom and top wheel lips with a ruler and large square and the right rear definitely has more camber (or the left rear has too little?). So... what are the factory front/rear camber settings _supposed_ to be? :-P Thanks! Vern asked: >Does anyone have any experience or info about Autosolutions shift kits? I've used the Autosolutions shifter (www.autosolutions.net for those unfamiliar) in a previous life on a previous car. It was certainly a worthwhile upgrade over stock. Seemed to be well put together, although they use bronze bushings - they certainly reduce cost over more exotic solutions, but bronze _will_ wear and can get sloppy over time. A few months after I'd installed my Autosolutions shifter, I had the opportunity to drive a students car in driving school (for the record it was actually an Audi) equipped with a UUC Short-shift and was very very impressed. Throws seemed shorter and more precise. I've since used nothing but UUC (www.uucmotorwerks.com for those unfamiliar) short shifters on any of my vehicles. UUC's upgraded quality and features are worth the difference in price over the rest IMO. My $0.02. :) Eric ///M Foster http://bmw.jedinite.com ************************************************************* List Commands UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. #6. [E36M3] Soft Steering - from The Buch

I found when I installed my new TCK 'Streetline' suspension, the car was hunting all over the place at speed, particularly in the rain ... it seemed to take about 2,000 miles to settle in, and is now stable, though somewhat more requiring of attention from the driver than stock ... DB -------------------- 9 -------------------- Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2002 16:34:51 -0500 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: Soft Steering? Hello, All- A question: What could be some probable causes of 'soft' steering. The wheel feels light (as in no loss of power assist) but the ratio of turning in relation to rotation of the steering wheel seems slower. I did the front suspension 8 days ago and I'm going to lift the front end again to check my work and all relevant components in about an hour. Nothing felt lose in the handling this morning, just slow(er) to respond to steering input. And driving home on the highway in the rain from the airport yesterday was VERY scary. The car felt like it was floating over any water, even thin glazing, and would deflect like mad over deeper stuff. I've got Pilots all round, and the rears have about 2K on them and the fronts have twice the depth of Lincoln's head using the Penny Test. Handling was fine the last time it rained, so I'm ruling out the tires and focusing on the work I did (Koni cut 'n gut, H&R springs, CA's and bushings). Any thoughts of what to look for before I go in are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve ************************************************************* List Commands UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. It's a sidebar piece to an article by Bob Tunnell on autocross prep, with my specific emphasis on setting up your car for Street Modified. They even included one of my pics of an M Coupe at a Bay Area autocross. If you get a chance, check it out... and keep your eyes peeled for more articles in the next few months! -p
