With excellent pads, high spec brake fluid, floating rotors, slight alteration to the dust shield, and some practise on different closed road courses, your high price Big Red solution is overkill. Your Big Red's don't produce more clamping power than stock M3 brakes, they just have more ability to shed heat. I have countered with better more heat resistant pads and fluid. At present, my brakes do not fade, there is no lack of initial bite and I only run out of braking zone when I brake too too late. Also, since I only use R compounds and not slicks, I have found in my brakes a good balance between brakes and tires. So back to my original question, any ideas about a better boot? What do the spec racers use? Unless you really want the 6th speed, I don't see a use for it. And if you really must get it, I'd rather get the S54 6-speed from BMW as I would really hate to get a used and abused tranny. ....we have yet to rebuild Wayne's 6-speed which just is not worth the $3500 he paid for it. For a little more, a new one can be had. Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com

Racers rebuild their calipers on a regular basis. The best solution is brake ducting. A couple of years ago I burned up the dust boots at a 3 day Summit event. It was kinda hot and I was not running track pads at the time. A very very stupid move on my part. They seem to be holding up much better with my PF90s. If you're in a hotter region of the country (Texas, Arizona, Florida, Cali, etc....) then you should seriously consider ducting. Finally, you should also rebuild your calipers at least yearly if you're a semi-serious to a serious track junkie. BTW, I took Chester's comments as a joke. He's just brake happy and most of us are acceleration happy. Hey! No wonder he's always in my rear view mirror! LOL! While replacing the pad, I noticed that the undercoating in front of the pad is torn and a small piece is missing. Any ideas as to what this silicone-like material is, where I can get it and how to repair it? Thanks., Steve

If one were to replace their exhaust, are there any items that should be replaced while you're at it? Aside from the exhaust hangers anyway. Any gaskets or bolts that are best not used again? I guess not. It's ironic that Patroon won't allow four-point harnesses, but they allow convertibles with rollbars. Conversely, NCC won't allow convertibles (even with rollbars), but will allow 4- 5- and 6-point harnesses, provided that the driver's and passenger's position have matching restraints. Aside from the exhaust hangers anyway. Any > gaskets or bolts that are best not used again? I would replace the 4 bolts that connect the exhaust to the cat. I would also replace the rear rubber exhaust hangers. Even if they're not torn yet, they will tear and it's easiest to change when dropping the exhaust. -peterg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com

I got a can when I found something had come up off the road and taken a chunk of it off the bottom of my 97. It just sprays on like spray paint. Clean up the metal underneath, first, so you have less possibility of corrosion. -matt -- matthew c. mead 97 Dakar M3/4 - sharked, xbraced 97 White GS-R/4 - stock (wife's) 92 Black Miata - dropped, dampened, headed towards SM http://www.goof.com/~mmead/
