Paul, As far as I can tell, it is doing almost exactly what the G-Tech and G-Cube are doing. It is making a power estimate from real-time 0-60 data. The site makes a mention that it is not the same as a pure "software" solution, which is true. My g-cube gives a varying HP solution vs. speed (just like a dyno). I assume the G-Tech and this thing do this also, altough the G-Cube doesn't actually measure RPM like this thing does, you have to estimate the RPM from the speed. A pure sofware solution would let you input 0-60 time (plus other parameters), and would just output peak power. If you enter the car's mass and gearing (tranny / diff / *exact* tire diameter) correctly, it can infer power from Newton's Law. The G-tech is an actual accelerometer, not sensitive to gearing or tires, but does require correct mass. Neither can correct for atmospheric conditions. A friend used a similar device to the road dyno to test his car in various states of tune, and the results were very consistent with Dynojet results. I'd guess it's a useful tool, as is the G-Tech for a similar price. >I think the difference is, as the site says, that tools like the Gtech are >estimating HP from 0-60 times, but this Road Dyno claims to actually be >measuring power. > > Has anybody ever heard of this contraption? > > > > http://www.charm.net/~mchaney/roaddyno/index.html

From that, angular acceleration of the drivetrain can be infered. Knowing car weight and gearing, torque can then be calculated. From that power can be derived. Just a guess. -Roger In a message dated 6/23/02 12:06:17 AM, e36m3@bmw-m.net writes: << I think the difference is, as the site says, that tools like the Gtech are estimating HP from 0-60 times, but this Road Dyno claims to actually be measuring power. >>

Date: Sun, 23 Jun 2002 08:57:17 -0700 From: "Mike" <Mike@worklife.com> Subject: Window Tint Im thinking of getting my cars windows tinted. My only issue with this is what will it look like? I prefer to not have any tint at all, but its been sooo hot lately, and the rear top carpet area under the rear window is purple now, not black. Does anyone have any pictures of a White E36 M3 with tint? I'm trying to decide what I want. Maybe a lesser % but even all around the car (drivers, pass, and all rear?) or just the rear 3 windows? I dunno ;) Links to pictures appreciated :-) With the % of tint you used :) I also need suggestions on where to go. Does anyone live in the Coastal Orange County (LA) area? Any suggestions? I'd like something with a warranty of some kind, and somewhere reputable. Let me know! -Mike

There's is no way I could stand not having my windows tinted. Beyond the quality of the shop, ask them about the quality of the film that they use. I got a lifetime warranty metal film tint. After the first two days, it didn't look tinted at all to me anymore, you get used to it. Ask the shop for recommendation of the film color as well, I would think a white car with black trim would look best with a black colored tint, but that is just me. For my Byzanz M3 (Copper color), a pewter (gray with a slight reflective quality) works good, and it is what the shop recommended. The PO had the car tinted with a "lesser quality" tint that had turned a purplish color after a few years, so I had it replaced. I have tinted my own cars before but removing the old tint is too much of a PITA so I had the pros do it. As far as % of tint to use, I believe in CA the max for the front door glass (if you have back doors like me) is 30% but you can legally go to 10%-15% on the back window. I had mine tinted at 30% all the way around so that all the windows matched, but now I wish I had gone darker in the back. If you go darker in the back, the front will look darker due to amount of light visible from behind the tint. It really is an optical illusion. I talked to guy at work who had his car tinted and he told me where he went, that is how I found the first place I used. For my wife's new SUV, and to retint my M3 I used the place that I had subbed out to when I worked at the Auto Repair shop (mainly because I knew he needed the money, not because he was better or worse than anyone else). On that note I tinted the windows on my ragtop 5.0 myself with 30% tint that I bought at TAP Plastics. It was easy to do and looked as good as the pro shops, you just need the right tools (spray bottle with a diluted dish soap mixture and a plastic squeegee to smooth out the bubbles). However, the stuff I used was softer than the pro stuff and scratched and tore easily. Date: Sun, 23 Jun 2002 16:25:25 EDT From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: phat Ecsta 712's? Guy's, Has anyone tried the Kumho Ecsta 712's in the 255/40/17 size (instead of 245/40/17) on the rear? I currently run Michelin MXX3 255/40/17 with ROLLED rear fenders, they are a tight fit, but never rub. I just received the 712's from TireRack and the 255's look and measure bigger than the MXX3's by a quarter inch, however the MXX3's are on my rims. The specs from the TireRack website list both tires with the same tread and cross-section width. Before I have these mounted next week, I would like some feedback.
