Does anyone know how to get the 5.25" rear speakers out of their enclosures? I took off the bottom cover and monkeyed around a bit without any luck. On a related note, is there any easy drop-in coaxial that fits in there? Given the contours of the parcel shelf (at least on my sedan) I'd rather reuse the enclosure than build something new. I already have front components and a sub, so this is just for a little more quality in the rear fill and to "complete" the system. My rear speakers have an annoying upper bass resonance that sounds really bad on a few of my favorite CDs. Thanks, Seth

#3. UPDATE : Part Number for M3 Lightweight Aluminum Bumper? - from Geof McLaughlin

Date: Mon, 24 Jun 2002 11:12:10 -0400 From: Geof McLaughlin <gfmiiilist@attbi.com> Subject: UPDATE : Part Number for M3 Lightweight Aluminum Bumper? I finally got a chance to take off the bumper from my 1/95+ M3 and it does NOT have the correct bumper support for installing the LTW splitter support brackets (i.e. the one with the holes). Lucky for me, one of our fellow listers had an extra one available which I bought so I didn't have to drill all the holes. BTW, the LTW bumper support is available from your local BMW parts department. It was about $125 from Nick Alexander. Geof

#4. phat Ecsta 712's - from Gcfuller@aol.com
Top
Date: Mon, 24 Jun 2002 11:45:39 -0400 From: Gcfuller@aol.com Subject: phat Ecsta 712's Yes, I do currently run the Ecsta 712's in the 255 size on the rear of my '98 M3/4. I don't have any rolling yet, and I get an occaisional rub with more than two people in the car or during spirited cornering. As soon as my shop gets one, I'm getting my fenders rolled. You should be fine with rolled fenders. Imterestingly, I had a pair of 245 712's on the rear, and they looked too small - less wide than the Michelins they replaced. Since I have 8.5's all around, I ordered 255's next and put them on the rear. Looked much better (they are wide), and put the 245's on the front. All is fine except for the occasional rub (soon to be fixed). Tire size is not exact - one mfgs. 245 may not be the same as the next. I believe there is some interpretation. Greg Fuller St. Louis - '98 M3/4 Date: Sun, 23 Jun 2002 16:25:25 EDT From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: phat Ecsta 712's? Guy's, Has anyone tried the Kumho Ecsta 712's in the 255/40/17 size (instead of 245/40/17) on the rear?  I currently run Michelin MXX3 255/40/17 with ROLLED rear fenders, they are a tight fit, but never rub.   I just received the 712's from TireRack and the 255's look and measure bigger than the MXX3's by a quarter inch, however the MXX3's are on my rims.  The specs from the TireRack website list both tires with the same tread and cross-section width. Before I have these mounted next week, I would like some feedback. TIA, Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA AS Champion 1997 & 2000 BSP Champion 2001

#5. UPDATE: Need Help with Cooling Problems (Long) - from Geof McLaughlin
Top
Date: Mon, 24 Jun 2002 11:42:28 -0400 From: Geof McLaughlin <gfmiiilist@attbi.com> Subject: UPDATE: Need Help with Cooling Problems (Long) Well I just returned from a weekend at Mosport and my problem does indeed appear to be a bad head gasket like everyone suggested (including Will Turner and Chuck Stickley). I just didn't want to believe it! From what I was told and my own personal experience, you can do all the tests you want to try to determine if you have a bad head gasket and it often will not indicate anything. If you are like me however and have already replaced all the cooling systems components (water pump, thermostat, radiator, cap, etc) and still are overheating, just replace the damn thing. BTW, it did however take about a half hour on the track before it would begin to overheat. I could not duplicate this on the street. Geof

#6. License plate light bulb replacement help - from john_stoj@excite.com

Date: Mon, 24 Jun 2002 11:50:54 -0400 (EDT) From: "john_stoj@excite.com" <john_stoj@excite.com> Subject: License plate light bulb replacement help Hi All, I can't for the life of me figure out how to replace the bulb in the rear licence plate lights. I've removed the plastic surround that exposes the lights and the trunk lock, but I can't get to the bulbs - the housings appear to be sealed. The dealer parts dept. wasn't sure how to do it, but said you did not access them from inside the trunk. Ideas? Help? #7. Can I replace head gasket myself? - from Geof McLaughlin
Top
Date: Mon, 24 Jun 2002 12:01:05 -0400 From: Geof McLaughlin <gfmiiilist@attbi.com> Subject: Can I replace head gasket myself? Since I have to replace the head gasket on my 95 M3 and there is a good possibility that I will have to do so again in the future, I was wondering if this is something that I could tackle on my own. I am fairly good mechanically, but have never worked on the engine sheerly out of fear of screwing something up. I have talked with a BMW mechanic and he said that it is a fairly simple job that just requires patience, time and perhaps some guidance. The only thing that he told me to watch for was replacement of the VANOS unit which needs to be tested with air pressure to ensure that it is activated properly. Apparently there is a BMW tool to do this, but he said that I could make my own. Has anyone replaced the head gasket themselves and perhaps have some tips? Geof

Just curious as to someone's experience and not the vague statement on the the V1 site. I'm not really concerned with the laser end of it as I am the radar side. Andrew, I've had metallic tint and a V1 for over a year and haven't had any problems with it for radar. I haven't run across laser though. #10. Kumho R compound survey - from AVUSM3@aol.com

Date: Mon, 24 Jun 2002 12:48:03 EDT From: AVUSM3@aol.com Subject: Kumho R compound survey Gruppe - I am trying to answer some questions regarding Kumho R compound tire life. I was wondering if the Kumho track tire users (V700 Victoracer or Ecsta V700) in the gruppe could answer a couple of quick questions: 1) Number of track days you were able to get on your last set. 2) Victoracer or Ecsta V700? 3) Tire Rack heat cycled or not? 4) Shaved or not? My answers for my most recent set are: 1) Number of track days you were able to get on your last set. 7 days on the set (they were completely shot at the end) 2) Victoracer or Ecsta V700? Victoracer 3) Tire Rack heat cycled or not? Not 4) Shaved or not? Not Thanks, John Cloutier
