For a stock car, and absolutely NO track time, the PBR Deluxes will work similar to stock and dust less. That's probably why they were recommended. (This is based on what I seem to recall reading, an - barely - absorbing :-) I've never used these pads - I don't mind the dust so stock works for me. YMMV.) Jim

Mel, If you promise to restrict hard braking to once per 1/2 mile or thereabouts, you can safely put the Deluxes on your car. They will in fact dust minimally and in a silverish color matching the wheel paint. In fact I'm running the Deluxes on my daily driver E30, although I will still not buy those pads ever again. If you drive your M3 fast enough to warrant more than one rapid deceleration (i.e.: track, autoX, etc), I would suggest you sell Deluxes on eBay for a profit. HTH, alex f

I can only comment on pads I've used. If you do end up selling those or returning them, I'd give a confident backing to the Porterfield R4S (street) pads. I've experienced no noise whatsover (lots of red gunk on there though), great performance under all street circumstances (never tracked these ones), perfect on canyon roads with heavier braking and hardly any dust at all (used to wipe my wheels off ever 2-3 days with stock and Pagid 4-2-1 pads, now it's once per week when I wash my car). I also know quite a few people that just keep these on as track pads too, so they can't be too bad if you end up out there. These are just fine for ordinary street use, and dust very little. The problem for an M3 owner lies in defining "ordinary." They won't stand up to multiple hard stops from high speed, so if your ordinary street use includes bombing down the canyons, then they're not for you. IMO the best for a variety of everyday uses are stock pads. Neil 96 M3

#8. Front strut removal techniques/tools - from Davis, Jake A

Date: Wed, 26 Jun 2002 16:21:26 -0500 From: "Davis, Jake A" <jake.a.davis@boeing.com> Subject: Front strut removal techniques/tools This was from some time ago, but with the recent impact wrench/impact tool/strut posts, I thought it might be time to pass it around again. Removal and reinstallation of the top nut on BMW front shock struts have always been a problem if the special and expensive socket tool was not available. Various makeshift solutions generally got the job done with some additional degree of difficulty. Now a very inexpensive (under $10.00) new tool is available from "Lisle", the automotive specialty tool makers known for making the mechanic's life easier without causing bankruptcy. Lisle tool #20390, called a "Shock Absorber Tool for Ford" is the perfect fit for BMW, but Lisle doesn't realize the additional application. Now you do. Any auto parts store can obtain the tool for you. http://www.lislecorp.com/tools/catalog/suspens/index.htm Jake Davis 95 M3/2.....128K and counting
