They are carbon/kevlar street pads that are as good as stock pads when cold, and have an increased grip over stock that you can really feel when warmed up. They worked fine at Auto-X, no fade, good modulation, and better braking. For the street conscious, these pads had *much* less dust than stock and no squeal (I did use an anti-squeal compound). I've been told that some people experience a soft "clicking" sound from the pads at parking lot speeds with these, but I've never heard this myself. #2. Madison, WI - from matthew c. mead

Date: Wed, 26 Jun 2002 22:38:07 -0400 From: "matthew c. mead" <mmead-bmw@goof.com> Subject: Madison, WI A while back I asked about some opinions on Austin, TX. It was one place I'd consider relocating. Well, given the state the economy is in, I have been open to a lot of different areas, and found a lead in Madison, WI. The lead turned into an interview and offer, and it's looking like my strongest opportunity. What BMW CCA activity is there in the Madison, WI, area? What about SCCA Solo II and autocrossing in general? I'm preparing a SpecMiata for late next season - it looks like the fields are reasonably sized there, in this class, too - anyone here participate? My M3 won't be too happy in the salt, and soon enough the Miata won't be street drivable, so maybe a 325ix is in order. Obviously the climate is quite a bit different from Virginia, but it looks like proximity to good tracks (Road America and Black Hawk Farms) is awesome. Will I be able to get into ice racing in the Madison, WI area? I suppose I'll need a fwd light something (Golf?) for that to avoid the $$$ 4wd classes. Date: Wed, 26 Jun 2002 22:21:10 -0500 From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Brake Pad Query Okay, so the consensus is that for my use here in Houston (where there are no canyons for bombing, no mountain twisties to romp through, and maybe 2 clover leafs in the entire city) that the PBR Deluxe pads will be almost as good as stock (Pagid?) pads with less dust. The pad of choice it seems are Porterfield R-4s pads (Mark was not the only one to say similar things, I'm just picking on him for no particular reason). I have used the R-4 pads and found them to be grabby and rotor eaters when cold, but at open track temps the dust boots caught fire before the pads faded (true story! Got the meatball flag at Laguna Seca for it). The question I have now, is how rotor friendly are the R-4s pads and who sells them at BMWCCA discount? #5. brake pads - from Paul Elliott

Date: Wed, 26 Jun 2002 23:54:19 -0400 From: "Paul Elliott" <elliott.paul@worldnet.att.net> Subject: brake pads Mel, >>recommended PBR Deluxe pads << I used to use them on my souped up '95 Volvo 850 turbo...I didnt find them too bad, but there were 2 negatives: First, they just didnt bite as hard as stock, which would be an even more important factor on the Ms. And Second, they have a tendency to squeel like a banshee, especially in the rears....These were the hardest pads to quiet Ive ever seen. Im now using Rotex pads with are kevlar and metallic, and theyre ok, except they have a nasty tendency to transfer pad material to the rotors, which produces a symptom real similar to warped rotors....I get rid of it by performing 4 or 5 hard stops from about 50 mph, like a new bed in process...That smooths the vibration in the steering wheel right out...Then if I use them by only stepping hard on the pedal for a shorter distance, I can keep the material transfer to a bare minimum. If I were you, and you were looking for a good street pad, Id go with the Hawk HPS pads. Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002 01:51:22 EDT From: Msebmwman@aol.com Subject: OT: need gasoline powered electrical generator Hey; Not a brake pad question. Rather, any recommendations on a reliable gasoline powered quiet generator that I assume are available in 4 cycle configuration? I don't know exactly how much power I need, but, assume at least one electric water pump to pump water out of a swimming pool and up about 50-80 feet off the ground through a garden hose as well as other electrical odds and ends in a home for emergencies (fridge, phone, a few lights, garage door, radio etc.). Getting ready for short-term needs in case of earthquake or fire in California. Perhaps a website that has reviewed them or a seller that has a bunch of models available to look at on the net? Yeah, yeah, I know....move if you can't stand the shake and bake...... Thanks, Marc 95M3CSL
