That's OK, though - if you take a look inside the battery tray, you'll actually see three different threaded holes for the hold down clamp to go to accommodate various sizes of batteries. Looks like Father BMW actually thought of this ahead of time. One of the holes (actually on the opposite side of battery tray from the one you're used to using) works perfectly for a Group 49 battery. The third hole looks like it will accommodate a smaller than stock battery - something you weight conscience boys and girls might want to think about. -Dano-

My female student was eager to learn & listened well but still pulled moves (lifting at every apex) that any self-respecting car would have thrown us into the weeds for. The P-car just said "okey-dokey" and trundled along. I got the second one midday. Hopped in, asked him what he was working on, and he said "staying on the track." Ruh roh! He'd had just one little off at the slowest corner, so I knew we would be working on 'too early, too hot.' :) Both of them went out for educational rides in the 'momentum car.' Carey- I have owned my car for 5 years (since new) and have put 76,000 miles = on it. I rally the car 3x per month, have over 40 track events, a few = auto-x's on it and its a daily driver. Other than a x-brace and a Dinan = chip, the car is stock. The car has not needed any repairs in 5 years. I = have done all the routine maintenance and changed the brakes and the = windshield (rock chip) once. Other than that, all the parts are = original. I am extremely happy with the car and am finding it to be a = workhorse. I do not baby the car, except for oil changes (synthetic) and = I flog it pretty good at the track and on rallies. I guess some people = are luckier than others. If I had to do all those repairs to my car, I = would not only be broke but upset about the reliability of my fine = German automobile.=20 Jamie Thomas Everett, WA 97 M3/4 w/ 76,000 glorious miles taken at speed!

Any recommendations? My local dealer refers me to their finance department for extended warranty information, which tells me this is more about money and less about service in their minds. Since my water pump decoupled the impeller from the shaft last month ('98 with metal impeller, 41k miles, weld failed), the automatic seems to have problems making it to 100K, and the top has been replaced under warranty once already, I don't want to be without a warranty.
