To my shock and amazement, Bill Arnold did not know what that referred to <g> (he hadn't come across that fault yet), so I turn to the List. Anyone have an idea where this valve is located, part number, ease of DIY replacement? I have access to an ETK, so just pointing me in the right direction should suffice. Thanks, and have a happy Fourth. Jim Bassett

I think the 96+ M3's use a more standard battery. That being said, the 49 fit with no problem in my car. I don't know what else I can say to convince you. The question of the length of the DieHard being 3/4 of an inch longer than stock was just me eyeballing both batteries side by side before I had to turn my stock one in for the core. That guess could be off, so take it with a grain of salt. If you want to try a 48, be my guest. I'm quite happy with my 49. >One thing is that, in the Sears pics of the diehards, the lip seems to be >located in the east/west sides, but not on the north./south sides, and if I >recall, our stock batteries are just the opposite..Why doesnt this cause a >clamping issue, or, are the pictures at the link you gave us at Sears >incorrect? I'm not exactly sure what you mean by all this lip business, but rest assured, it's got lip in all the right places. Have faith, my friend. I'm not trying to snowball anyone. The DieHard group 49 fits 95 M3's. Period. -Dano-

And, does anybody know whether there really is a difference between the battery a '95 takes with the 96+? If they're the same, I would prefer to try Dan's solution than the slightly weaker grp 48 model. I noticed the M cars aren't on the list of available cars. I'm shooting for the 7/30 Princeton NJ day. How 'bout y'all? =20 In the past, I remember they would ask for volunteers to help transport the cars. Are they doing that again this year?

I took the original battery out of my M3 LWT about 1 year after I bought the car new (I use an Optima), and it's been sitting on my shelf with the occasional re-charge ever since. I dunno whether it is of any use to anyone, but you're welcome to have it just for the trouble of picking it up from my house in San Francisco. Email me if interested ... -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. Kalman, Ph.D. aek@pumpkininc.com

You can get to it from inside the trunk, pulling back the side carpeting. Hope that made some sense? And, possibly not as easy as it sounds. This is how the dealer got to mine (I think), I have a crack in the EVAP tank neck, so they tell me (constant ck engine light), to be repaired soon. However, dealer told me the engine runs better with the crack, just can't afford the run blind with the light on all the time. It's smaller than stock and fits in the car with no modifcations. Saves about 10 lb if I recall correctly. Have only had it about a year, though, so I can't comment on it's life (OEM lasted me 7 years!) Roger '95 M3
