If your planning on traveling I-80 through Nebraska in the next couple of days on your way to OFest, please check ahead with the Nebraska Highway Patrol. Flash floods have wiped out several bridges in western Nebraska and forced to closure of I-80 at Ogallala, NE. This is several miles before the I-76 turn off for Denver. They are warning people to expect long delays and detours! See you there! Tom Clark

#3. Factory M3 Items & Hoosiers for Sale - from Riley, Scott

Date: Sun, 7 Jul 2002 07:52:28 -0500 From: "Riley, Scott" <sriley@cardinalcapital.com> Subject: Factory M3 Items & Hoosiers for Sale Finally, I had a chance to sort through my garage and make a list of items that I need to move out. All of these were removed from a '95 M3 with only 20k miles that I recently converted into a club racer. However, many of these parts could be installed on other E36 models. In consideration of other listers, please contact me privately regarding any interest in these items. All of these items are located in Dallas, Texas and available for shipping. I've attempted to give the correct p/n, but please correct me if it is wrong. Also, I have high quality digital photos available for all of the items. Prices below do not include shipping. Driver side airbag (4-spoke design): p/n 32 34 1 161 681. Cover is in mint condition. $400. Passenger side airbag: p/n unknown. $400. Air bag sensor: p/n 65.77-8352763. Make offer. Factory CD changer: p/n 82 11 1 468 014. Very little usage over 20k miles. Comes with bracket and CD magazine...ready to hook up. $250. Sway bar set: Extremely low mileage (20k), 22.5 mm front, 19 mm rear. BMW Part #'s: 31 35 2 227 241, 33 55 2 227 244. BMW list price $251. My price: $75 Spring set: Extremely low mileage (20k). $100 Pair of sun visors (black) in mint condition. $25 Amber lens set: Complete factory set including side markers. Great condition. $100. Hoosiers: I have ten (10) A3SO3 (autocross) 245/40-17 tires for sale. Given that I have decided to pursue BMW club racing, I just don't have the time to effectively compete in autocross anymore. The remaining tread lives on these tires vary somewhat. Using my trusty Snap-On tread gauge, I have attempted to measure the tread depths with 3 measurements (Inside, Middle, Outside) taken for each tire. Keep in mind that these tires can be used on either side of the car to even out tire wear, as stated by Tire Rack in an excerpt from their website below: "The R3S03 and A3S03 tires feature an asymmetric tread design (which looks directional, but isn't) and can be used on either side of the car. They are molded with a tread depth of just 4/32" so they will not require shaving for competition, however they will benefit from heat cycling before competition to enhance wear and provide more consistent performance." All of these tires were heat-cycled and stated at 4/32". Keep in mind that the first set of tires below will only be sold as a complete set as they were only used at one autocross (8 runs of 90 seconds each). Typically in Texas, a set of Hoosiers will last anywhere from 8-10 autocrosses or one season, so this particular set has a lot of tread left. In fact, you can still see the complete tread pattern in the tires (not just the 2 strips). Set of four (4): Tire 1A: 3.5/32", 3.5/32", 3.5/32" (Inside, Middle, Outside) 1B: 4, 4, 4 1C: 3.5, 4, 4 1D: 3.5, 4, 4 Price: $600 Individual tires: Tire 1: 3.5, 3, 3. Price: $125. 2: 3.5, 3, 3. Price: $125. 3: 3, 2.5, 2. Price: $100. 4: 2.5, 3.5, 2. Price: $100. 5: 1.5, 2, 3. Price: $75. 6: 3.5, 3, 1.5. Price: $75. Please email me with any questions or comments. Thanks for the bandwidth, Scott Riley

#4. Thinking of snow - from John Galt

Date: Sun, 07 Jul 2002 12:40:22 -0500 From: John Galt <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: Thinking of snow Hello, all- After a year of reflecting, an element of my life needs resolution and for insight, I come to the wisdom of the list. I'm preparing for the coming winter here in Kansas City which is usually brief (a month or two at most) and can be completely dry or downright nasty (last year's two-day ice storm comes to mind). What I need to know is how well the M3 can handle snow/ice/slush conditions with the proper tires, and equally important, what tires will work the best under those and dry conditions. I have an '87 Saab 900 that needs a good deal of werk (tranny, mainly) and whose demise was the impetus for me purchasing the M3. It is wonderful for hauling loads of stuff and was a dream in the snow, but I'm sure there's about $2,500 needed to get it running, inspected and licensed again. Ideally, I'd like to park the M and drive the Saab in the snow, but my personal economy demands prudence and caution, so purchasing a set of rims/tires for the snow and/or selling the Saab seems to have more merit. Never mind that I'm still sourcing parts for my cycle. So while I regroup this year, can the M be an effective and SAFE snow car? And who recommends what as far as tires and rims go? I had (have) Pilot Sports on the car last winter which after one exciting adventure remained parked until I could see asphalt again. Thank you for your advice, Steve

#7. Part # Help? - from Mike

Date: Sun, 7 Jul 2002 17:02:09 -0700 From: "Mike" <Mike@worklife.com> Subject: Part # Help? I took a road trip this weekend to Vegas from So Cal, and one stretch of the freeway was rather bumpy. When I came home, I decided to wash my car. Upon washing the car, I noticed 2 screws missing on one side that holds the ground effects on my 1997 M3 onto the car. It's the screws in the wheelwell... Is this a common problem? Has this happened to anyone else? What can I do to prevent this from happening again? Below are links to some pictures. Missing Screws http://home.attbi.com/~mkanaly/m3/missing1.jpg Missing Screws (shot 2) http://home.attbi.com/~mkanaly/m3/missing2.jpg And here's what the screws look like installed (other side of car... dur) http://home.attbi.com/~mkanaly/m3/partnumbers.jpg Let me know if you know where I can get these screws from painlessly. It would also help if someone had the Part Numbers for them??? I'm worried the ground effects will fall off if I don't get this fixed, as it seemed rather loose now. Let me know! -Mike

It wears Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22s for winter and I have been impressed with the handling at speed and the traction in snow. On several times I've used the splitter as a snow plow, once losening the left side on some hardpack and never thought about getting stuck, just questioning my sanity for having the M3 out in that weather. Unfortunately my son had my Jeep in Rochester because of engine problems with his 325 so I had no choice. I got the 215s on 16" wheels from Tirerack. If you go with the 16s, make sure your brake sensor cables are tight. Mine weren't and wore through the wires. Had a sensor light most of the winter even though I had at least 70% of pad thickness. The part number is 51 16 1 881 149. It's best to remove wheel, insert rivet, and strike head with hammer (the rivet, not yours). These can come off if there was some previous body work done and the body shop was careless and didn't reinstall them. It can also happen if someone wanted to steal your rocker panels. ...or...if you have a OTE and a sideways tug pulls at the panel...don't ask me how I know.
