Well....? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf? itemnumber=47246 I'm notconsidering one for regular use in the Garage; but, if it's of decent quality, it would probably be a great jack for the Track... #3. One more alignment question - from Mel Silva
Top
Date: Thu, 11 Jul 2002 17:47:29 -0500 From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> Subject: One more alignment question Just bouncing ideas around. I pulled the wheels off last weekend when I replaced the fender liners, pork chops, and undertray as many others have. I noticed that I had excessive inside tire wear on the driver's side. I did the alignment myself on a Hunter (9a?) only six months ago. I Dug up the alignment sheet and reviewed the settings which are detailed here: Left front Camber: -1.0 Deg Caster: 7.4 Deg Toe: 0.16 Deg Right Front Camber: -0.6 Deg Caster: 7.1 Deg Toe: 0.16 Deg Combined Cross Camber: -0.4 Deg Cross Caster: 0.2 Deg Total Toe: 0.32 Deg All of these settings are within spec, yet I'm seeing dramatic difference in tire wear left to right. Could I have a bent strut (good excuse for new Koni's), or should I assume that the Hunter Machine was mis-calibrated and get another alignment?. Thanks in advance for the input? Mel

#4. [E36M3] OT WTB: S-14 longblock - from twisty M3

I have a friend building up an E30 M3 race car. Most of it's coming together pretty well... except for the big empty area in the engine bay. He's looking for a S-14 longblock...not new, but something with decent mileage (less then 100,000). Any help is appreciated. Sue and list, >>After the experience of trying to turbocharge my own M3, and now driving the M5, I'm not sure I would recommend forced induction on the M3 unless you are prepared to do some extensive modifications<< I agree with you on the Mechtechs....Theres a long thread going on now on bimmerforums in the Forced Induction section decrying it and all its problems...However, for every unhappy Mechtech customer, there seem to be several ecstatic AA customers. I think there's no question that AA has really done their homework, and easily provides the best solution of the type....Of course, being really the Only (fully functional and working) solution of its type, they get to charge the moon for their work. Still, there are many guys with recent AA kits in various 'stages' who have to perform no more maintenance and upkeep on their cars than guys who are still bone stock...That's a fact. And if you want a little less torque, but just as much reliability, youve always got the Dinan SC, which is another reliable, well done kit. Of course, one of the points of this thread is that there are no 'cheap' solutions that work, and with that, Id have to agree...But thats only due to economies of scale. NOt because they dont work. Main reason, when you are driving an M3 hard, usually means power on from turn in to track out, which transfers alot of weight to the rear and alot of torque is trying to go thru those wheels, which results in alot of heat. From the looks of the temps, I would say you need more negative camber and less toe in, or some combination change of the two. Mike

I think there's no question that AA has > really done their homework, and easily provides the best solution of the > type Not to argue, as you own a induction car, but there is no-one that makes a well designed kit for the M3, AA included. Dinan is probably the best supercharged kit out there, but leaves alot to be desired. My test for a kit would be the ability to survive several track days a year. Nobody makes one yet. I have yet to attend a school where a Supercharged/turbocharged car made it all weekend. It is always something. Having known several M3 owners who have had everything out there, in their own words, they would NEVER do it again. That tells ya alot about the kits. All would have went Euro motors or cams/intake etc on the US motor, in fact most did after selling the supercharger, turbo kits etc. Would love a simple, well designed, reliable kit that didnt require more engineering on my end to make it work great. Still waiting to see what Downing Atlanta comes up with on their kit for the E-36. Some folk have said the kits for the 4 cylinder left alot to be desired, but on the other hand, Several folks that install, service Dinan cars loved the Downing cars due to the virtually non existent problems or returns vs the Dinan cars which typically have little problems all the time, Mike
