Hmm....I've driven the AA '95M3 Red project car. What Mike says is correct...money can do wonders. Apparently for this car, they used forged pistons/rods, lowered the compression ratio, head gasket, etc. Of course this would be more durable since it's built for it. However, most people who want turbo kits want to simply bolt it up and that will simply not do unless you limit the boost. I think it was Kit who said that the AA turbo is old as well. I agree. The power in that car was so peaky that it felt real sluggish below 3k. Once you got there, it was unbelieveable. Is the car fun? Sure...it was a blast. Would I want that on the track? Hell no! Could you imagine that boost coming on in the middle of a turn? I can see why people go to the cam/intake route or go with a euro motor. After having driven Wayne's car down the Philly, all I can say is that it's not as much fun driving my car anymore =( Would I do the cams? Possibly...but not for the amount of money that it costs. If you run the numbers....$3k for the cams, $1k for the dual pickup oil pan, etc...you're better off getting a euro 3.2 evo :) And when I do...I think Wayne will be jealous ;) Best regards, Chester

#4. m3 alignment for Mel - from TFRM3@aol.com

Date: Fri, 12 Jul 2002 12:21:31 EDT From: TFRM3@aol.com Subject: m3 alignment for Mel Assuming those specs you posted are WITHOUT driver, you do have a problem. When you get in the car, your Lf will migrate from -1.0 to probably -1.4 or so. Your Rf will go from -0.6 down to about -0.4. (camber gain is faster than camber loss). To tell where the problem is, look first at the data sheet they gave you , look for anything called SAI or KPI (steering axis inclination, king pin inclination, same thing) They should be the same. Lacking that info, you can measure it yourself. Find a way to measure the distance between the inside of the and the strut. It should be the same. If not, your problem is at the bottom of the strut, if they are the same, your problem is at the top of the strut. Jay Yes, that was me who got outbid on the 1976 Redline Squareback BMX frame.

It looked like an M3 GT (Euro) wheel, but the rim was done in suede and it had the ///M emblem on the lower vertical spoke. It was truly a work of art. Is there a part number for this wheel, or was it custom work? I really want to know. Thanks for any details. Michael Maigret BMWCCA #277854

That doesn't explain why the *left* rear tire is hotter. On a CCW track, the right-side tires are working harder. > From the looks of the temps, I would say you need more > negative camber and > less toe in, or some combination change of the two. Could you explain why? Apart from the pressures perhaps being a bit low, all the tires except the LR have pretty even temps across the surface. If anything, the temps on the LR indicate it needs less neg camber. At any rate, here's a summary of the theories I've gathered to explain the high temps on the inner LR: 1) Simply too much neg camber on the LR for that track. Not enough right turns to camber it out positively, so inside edge is suffering. LF does not show the problem because of effect of caster (keeps wheel more positively cambered when turning.) 2) Bad toe bushing on LR corner - suspension not doing what it's supposed to. 3) Proximity to exhaust. This was scoffed at by the guy who gave me theory (1), but I don't think it's that farfetched as I was using an IR pyrometer, which I imagine is more affected by the surrounding air than a probe-type. Plus the car had been sitting for probably a minute by the time I got out, grabbed the pyrometer and notebook, and got around to the LR tire - plenty of time for exhaust heat to radiate to the tire. - Bill
