#1. [E36M3] Airbag light? - from Jay W. Hudson

Two fairly common problems. 1) One of the front seatbelt buckles has gone bad, causing the SRS system to think the seatbelt isn't connected. 2) The pass seat has a sensor to let the SRS system know if someone is sitting in the seat or not. If the sensor goes bad, the SRS system may think someone is in the seat and expect the pass seatbelt to be connected. I had the pass seatbelt buckle/latch replaced under warranty. #2. Need Info. on Incredible M Steering Wheel - from Dorffer, Rich

Date: Sun, 14 Jul 2002 15:15:40 -0400 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: Need Info. on Incredible M Steering Wheel I have one of these steering wheels on my 1989 325is. I like it a lot. The steering wheel is a quality piece and was a little smaller (15 mm IIRC) than the M-Tech steering wheel the 325is came with. The steering wheel is part # 32 33 2 226 808 and you will also need the horn button part # 32 33 2 226 656. Total cost will be somewhere from $400 to $500. The EVO bits will cost you a lot of money, just ask one of the E30 M3 guys that is converting/converted his E30 M3 to the Sport EVO3 M3. Best regards, Rich 95 M3 90 325is 89 325is (motor rebuilt and the should be in place on Thursday when Brett and I get back to it after Ofest) -------------------- 7 -------------------- Date: Fri, 12 Jul 2002 10:59:02 -0700 (PDT) From: "Michael Maigret x2196" <studmuffin@galaxy.nsc.com> Subject: Need Info. on Incredible M Steering Wheel Hi all, I saw an amazing steering wheel on a very clean black E30 M3 at the Golden Gate BMWCCA Sear's Point driver school this past Tuesday. It looked like an M3 GT (Euro) wheel, but the rim was done in suede and it had the ///M emblem on the lower vertical spoke. It was truly a work of art. Is there a part number for this wheel, or was it custom work? I really want to know. Thanks for any details. Michael Maigret BMWCCA #277854

Date: Sun, 14 Jul 2002 22:13:52 -0400 From: "Cesar Omar Torres" <cesar@cfl.rr.com> Subject: PLEASE HELP! Hello, Can somebody help! I have a 1997 BMW M3 2dr. After the installation of the Ultimate Short Shifter from UUC Motorwerks and the light flywheel from the same company the car has develop an annoying rattle sound. I was expecting this to happen when the car would be standing still on idle, but my problem is when the car is at the 5th gear. When the car starts to slow down between 2000 and 3000 rpm, it produces rattle noises that come from the transition and travel inside the car thru the gear shifter (loud rattle! inside the car) especially if I wait until the car goes below 2500 rpm a then accelerate again. The rattle noise disappear about 3000 rpm. I love the UUC shifter but the Flywheel noise in fifth gear SUCK! Advices, will be highly appreciated History of the installation 1. Both fly wheel and UUC SS install by a professional mechanic. 2. New Red Line ATF 3. 50,000 miles on the car (Pamper) 4. Parts and installation $1,150.00 :o( Thanks! #10. Re: [E36M3] PLEASE HELP! (RE flywheel review) - from Chris Papademetrious

Date: Sun, 14 Jul 2002 23:18:17 -0400 From: Chris Papademetrious <chrispy@ieee.org> Subject: Re: [E36M3] PLEASE HELP! (RE flywheel review) Cesar, I went through the same thing when I bought a Fidanza flywheel from Rogue Engineering and installed it in my 95 M3. The noise I experienced was more of a strong vibration/buzz than a rattle, but I think we may be describing the same thing. I heard it come from the transmission through the shifter, and also through the frame of the car, at about 2500rpm and below when putting a load on the drivetrain in any gear. Fourth and fifth were the most pronounced because you generally were cruising at that RPM, rather than just "passing through" the RPM band. Unlike other stories and like yourself, I did not have a hint of the infamous idle rattle. Being my daily driver, this vibration/buzz bothered me so much that I jumped at the chance to try out Rogue Engineering's new sprung carbon-Kevlar clutch setup when it was released. In a conventional M3 setup, the clutch is solid, and a dual-mass flywheel is used to dampen the system. When the dual-mass flywheel is replaced with a solid lightweight flywheel, there is now no damping or "give" anywhere in the system, and every bit of vibration is transmitted from the motor throughout the rest of the car. With the RE sprung-clutch setup, a spring-loaded clutch is used in conjunction with the solid flywheel, which is actually the way most normal cars are. While not as good as a dual-mass setup, it does provide the needed give to absorb some of the vibrations from the motor. After the flywheel/clutch package was installed, I noticed a marked decrease in noise inside the car. The vibration and buzz are completely gone above 2000rpm now, and are present but greatly reduced below 2000rpm. Overall, the car is not 100% as quiet as factory, but it's as close as you're probably going to get with such a light flywheel. I would characterize it as taking that smooth inline-6 "ripping silk" sound, and making it a little more noticeable. It's not objectionable, and it actually gives the drivetrain a *beautiful* metallic whine when you run it up to redline. Overall, I went from being dismayed to pleased, with no change in performance. Yeah, it sucked to buy and install two flywheel setups to get it right, but it was money well spent for me. - Chris
