The reason was the response time for electrical gauges. However, in reality under race conditions one cannot check the gauges quickly enough to make much difference. I had a similar issue with the "5th gauge" selection. What I started, but never finished, was to use the transmission/differential electric temperature gauges and use a toggle swith to switch between a sending unit in the transmission and one in the differential. I am adding 5 gauges to my, new to me, racecar... The gauges that I have installed so far from Autometer Pro-comp ultra-lite are: http://www.autometer.com/hp/index.html 1. Electric Oil Temp 2. Volts 3. Electric Water Temp The questions that I have are: 1. Should I install an electric or mechanical oil pressure gauge? 2. What should I install in the 5th gauge location? I was thinking of one of the two following gauges: A mechanical Fuel Pressure gauge model 4462 (what range should I use and where should I tap into the fuel system) A differential temp gauge model 4347 or 4348 (what range should I use) An exhaust gas temp model 4466 (one channel or two channel) An air fuel ratio gauge model 4375 Thanks, Chris T. 92 325is KP #325 ************************************************************* List Commands UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. Keith, Have you been working on/under the front seats just prior to the light coming on? You may have disconnected the seat belt latch harness that the air bag sensor reads to see if the seats are occupied. Either that or the latch sensor went south on its own. > According to the owner's manual, I need to take it to a BMW dealership > for diagnosis, which means automatic one hour minimum labor charge. Did you call all local dealers and all of them charge the same 1 hour? The diagnostics process takes about 10 minutes, 8 of them pulling the car to the Modic and plugging it in. Do you know your mechanic (not the Service Seller, ahem Adviser)? If so you could slip him a $20 and he'll be glad to pull the codes for you while chewing on his lunch. If not you may have to pay the 1 hour of labor. Either way I strongly suggest you diversify your making friends with SA efforts and get to know the wrench who actually works on your car. alex f

And I thought that was pretty good... how about your clutch? Will it see 200k? speaking of brakes.. I just burned up ebrake. Doh! I had the brake set while level, waiting to leave a parking garage (car off.. person in front of me slow). When I got to go, I fired up the car but forgot the brake. I drove probably 1-2 miles in downtown and hit 55 or so with the brake engaged. Finally noticed, and disengaged it (yeah, the red light should have warned me, but my damn airbag light always comes on since I blew a fuse while wiring in my radar detector, so I am used to ignoring the red light in the lower right corner..). Anyway, now when I engage my e-brake, only one side grabs well (the car does the one-corner-lift thing). My left side was smelliest, and the left wheel was warmer than the right.. but it seems like the left is the only one grabbing! Maybe I burned up the material on the right? Damn, and I just replaced my brakes.. I do NOT want to take my calipers and rotors off again just to redo my e-brake linings.. - reid On 7/15/02 12:58, "Wen Liew" <wwliew@hotmail.com> wrote: > Date: Mon, 15 Jul 2002 12:47:34 -0700 > From: "Wen Liew" <wwliew@hotmail.com> > Subject: Just joined the 100k club > > Despite the miles and years of ownership, this car still brings me smiles. > May the next 100k be just as much fun and relative ease on my wallet ;) > > Wen > 96 M3 > > P.s. still on stock brakes ;) > > > _________________________________________________________________ > Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com > > > > ************************************************************* > List Commands > UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. > DIR - sends a listing of files available in the list's GET directory. > GET filename1.ext,filename2.ext - sends the requested file(s). > > To issue a command/request to the server: > Send a message with the command you wish executed as the > subject of the message to the email address e36m3@bmw-m.net. > ************************************************************* > >

#6. [E36M3] Jinxed by the List: Windshield - from twisty M3

All these posts regarding windshield replacement and what happens to me? Yup, time to find a replacement. Had a decent crack that I got at the racing school, which was about 1 inch wide, but chipped as well. I had to drive through L.A. on Saturday and somewhere on the 405 I'm looking out the windshield and that one inch had suddenly become 5-6 inches! The car was sitting in the sun for about 45-minutes and then jumped on the freeway... Must've been the change in temp, as it couldn't have had anything to do with wind speed (anyone who's been on the 405 at the 101 interchange on a Saturday will know what I'm saying). ;) Anyway, just checked my insurance, which I wouldn't have done had board members not mentioned it, and it seems to be covered under comprehensive. I just have to pay the $250 deductible, which isn't too bad. Not fully covered like some people, but I can live with it. I can get it done anywhere and use any glass I like too. #11. TC Kline rollbar - from Vince Leo

Date: Tue, 16 Jul 2002 09:03:58 -0700 (PDT) From: Vince Leo <m332is@yahoo.com> Subject: TC Kline rollbar I have a TC Kline rollbar with the removable cross section for sale. It will ONLY fit a BMW e36 door door (i.e., 318is, 325is, 328is, M3) It is approx 18 mos old and in great shape. No accidents, a few scratches mainly from the original shipping. It is powder coated black. IMHO, these are the best bolt in bars out there and as a result, they are a bit more expensive than the Autopower bars, but the fit and finish is first rate. It really hugs the inside curves of the e-36. If you are doing track events, this is a must. I am moving to a four door platform with a full cage and this bar will not work for me. Now here is the rub... I am sure this will cost a small fortune to ship, so I looking to a local buyer first (unless you have access to a shipping company and I will not have to just through hoops). Details - $500 PLUS shipping - looking for a buying in the Western NY, Northern PA, NE Ohio area. I am in Rochester. NY. Vince __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
