Are you intending to convert the 3.2L engine to OBD-I engine controls, or to retrofit OBD-II to the car? The answers to your question will be quite different either way. Unless you have more technical knowledge about this conversion than your post seems to suggest (and than I do!), I believe you'd be well advised to have this done professionally by someone who's been there and done that. Brett Anderson would be a good place to start. Neil 96 M3

#4. Knock Sensor and 1226 - from Steve Klein

Date: Thu, 18 Jul 2002 13:44:10 -0500 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: Knock Sensor and 1226 Hi, Gang- I installed my new tensioner over lunch today and thought I'd check for codes while I was there. Recently it was a clean 1444, but now I've got the 'ol 1226. My questions are a) what's the average cost of replacement (p&l) and b) would this be the source of what feels like a single cylinder missing (not missing from the engine bay, but failing to fire and taking the smooth edge off the engine)? Thanks, Steve

I got that jack and I really dig it. Below this is the post I sent to the Club Racing list and what I would ad is that someone (who seemed to know their stuff... But hey this is the internet and we are talking "club racers" here and we are a clueless bunch) said that it doesn't have the side to side brace and is more likely to flex. That said I have used it a few times now and it's loosened up and works great. More details and full nude photos below. Dave ======== snip ========= Hi All, I saw the post about the jack and figured it would be better than the Sears $45 model (I bought a few years back for autocross) myself and 3 other racers shared at Lime Rock. I don't know much about jack and such but it looks pretty well made. I figure the hardware guys would enjoy some close up pictures to look at the bracing and welds and stuff so here they are. Warning... the thumbnails are small but the pictures you get when you click on the thumbnails are large. http://quake.spragg.com/DS/Jack/index.htm I paid $206 with shipping for it so if it lasts a while it is fine with me but if it isn't made that well you might be wiser to go with bigger names. The unit itself is a US General Model 47246. I believe it is to recieve an inspection I. What all does this cover? Are there any other services/checks I should be asking for at the same time? In the two years I've had the car it has been almost problem free, even though the car seems floaty over some bumps, and others give a harder kick. I guess suspension will be due soon. It is schedulded with BMW of Towson, just to the North of Baltimore. If anyone has any experience with these guys I would like to hear about it. Thanks for your time everyone. I haven't looked at mine a while (and am too lazy to go out to the car and get it <g>), Inspect I is mainly an oil & filter change and then a bunch of "checks". Jim Bassett

#10. [E36M3] Koni Shock setting (Dinan specific?) - from Colin_S_Whelan@rrfc.raytheon.com

Date: Thu, 18 Jul 2002 17:59:28 -0400 From: Colin_S_Whelan@rrfc.raytheon.com Subject: [E36M3] Koni Shock setting (Dinan specific?) Hi Everyone, Just collecting even more information about possible suspensions. Did anyone know the front and rear setting recommendation for Koni? Since they're probably specific to springs, how does Dinan set them, since I'm thinking Dinan springs? Also, how do you adjust them (especially the rears)? Also, can you just use an Allen wrench to adjust the fronts once installed? Thanks, Colin
