Since >they're probably specific to springs, how does Dinan set them, since I'm >thinking Dinan springs? Not sure who makes Dinan's springs, or what Dinan recommends, but I have the H&R Sports and run 1.25 turns from full soft in the front and 2 full turns from soft in the rear. ProParts/TCKline had recommended 1 full turn front and rear, but that didn't feel very good to me and the back felt "mushy." My settings took quite a bit of tinkering before I was finally happy. Overall, the car feels extremely well-balanced. > >Also, how do you adjust them (especially the >rears)? >Also, can you just use an Allen wrench to adjust the fronts once installed? > No, with mine you certainly couldn't use an Allen wrench on the fronts. Either the supplied tool or pliers work. Some have made or bought a special tool which fits better (due to the tight fit w/the shock tower). My regular Koni "tool" fits and works fine however. Unless you have them built to be externally adjustable, the rears have to come off the car and be fully compressed in order to adjust them. A rather large Allen/hex wrench can be used on the rears, but I can't remember what size. I had my mirrors stolen a few months ago and had to buy the whole mirror kit. There's 4 pieces to the kit, the base, mirror, housing and the motor. It's cheaper than getting just the mirror, housing and motor. When I got everything back from the body shop, I installed everything and then used silicone on the clips. Next time someone takes my mirrors, I'll be ordering a new door or new car. -Bobby ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kit Wetzler" <kitwetzler@mindspring.com> > > > Rowr. The seats are way too big so your arm will be tired from holding onto the steering wheel and the track is about 11 secs (if you're pretty fast). F1 Boston (http://www.f1boston.com/) is a much better place. -Bobby ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Manger" <Robert_Manger@Mastercard.com> > > Fellow listers, > > I remember that there was a track in CT some place that had an indoor road > course, but I have forgotten the name. does anyone recall the name? > > Rob >

Since I am planning on doing a spring/shock replacement in a couple of weeks, I have been collecting the bits and pieces necessary to complete the job. I got a set of "modified" RSM's and new spring pads from Chester. I ordered, and received today, a Lisle 20390 strut removal tool. I purchased a strut spring compressor, and I thought I was well on my way to suspension nirvana. Now, Colin mentioned this "cone wrench" thingy and it triggered a suppressed memory about needing that for something. Where does one find a cone wrench? Is it necessary, or an added convenience? How long is it going to take to find one? Are there any more surprise required tools? Mel Silva '97 M3/4 with stock suspension today

Anyway, a cone wrench is not needed, don't bother. You can use a regular open end to hold the strut end link. I bought, but did not use spring compressors. They weren't needed to disassemble my H&R c/o's, and weren't needed for my GC's. You might need them for disassembly of the stock ones, but I'm not sure. I just laid my struts on the ground and zapped them with my impact. Nut came off, and nothing shot across the garage. The HR front struts are under tension at droop, just like stock, but the stock may have more. . . dunno. I bought that Lisle tool. It didn't work. It was a 18 mm or something like that. Stock strut nuts are 22 mm, and the Koni/GC struts were too. The tool fit the HR's, but nut removal was done with an impact as noted above. BTW, the cheapie 20 dolla impact wrench from Harbor Freight worked like a champ. Felt like I was cheatin'. #8. Koni Shock setting (Dinan specific) - from Paul Elliott

Date: Thu, 18 Jul 2002 22:15:59 -0400 From: "Paul Elliott" <elliott.paul@worldnet.att.net> Subject: Koni Shock setting (Dinan specific) >>Did anyone know the front and rear setting recommendation for Koni? Since they're probably specific to springs, how does Dinan set them, since I'm thinking Dinan springs<< When I got mine in January, if I recall correctly, they came either at 1 full turn, or 1.5 full turns from full soft. I believe thats how Dinan matches them up to the springs...remember, this adjustment only effects rebound...Compression is factory set and not adjustable on these...I havent checked, but the rear adjustment should match the front. To adjust the fronts, you need to use a pair of needle nose pliers cause I think youll find that the little plastic knob adjuster they give you wont fit as the piece you need to grab onto will be too close to the side of the opening in the shock tower. The rear shocks need to be removed in order to be adjusted. #10. Lip Spoilers - from The Buch
Top
Date: Wed, 17 Jul 2002 22:15:33 -0700 From: The Buch <the_buch@telus.net> Subject: Lip Spoilers A pal of mine just showed up with a new lip spoiler on the rear deck lid of his '98 2dr M3 coupe. Rather than going for the E46 version which is about 1cm short on either side and very slightly under-curved compared to the E36 trunkline, he decided on a 5-series lip spoiler which is very slightly over-curved and had to be ground down to match up with the width of the trunk. After painting, it was mounted up with double-sticky tape. The look is both sharp and subtle. I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of similar spoilers, or any other opinions / options that have worked well for this?? Thanks, Doug
