#1. Vader side bolsters - from andy radin

Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 10:58:14 -0700 From: "andy radin" <fourfa@fourfa.com> Subject: Vader side bolsters thought some of you might be interested in this. Seems like an obvious thing to do, but I've never seen mention of it here. I swapped my seat backs recently, to even out the wear on the side bolsters for the next few years (two T15? torx screws at the bottom, remove the side latches [just pull hard] and latch surrounds, remove headrest, back panel comes off, unhook leather, that's it). While I was in there, I bent in the seat side supports - two metal sheets that set the amount of side bolstering. This should be done carefully and slowly, with lots of iteration with the seat foam to make sure you don't go too far. It takes a full-body push to bend them, or fashion a lever of some sort. Tune to taste for your own body shape. Mine had been at about 15 degrees out from each other. I'm 6'3" and 175 lbs., and I bent them in to about 10 degrees towards each other. End result - VAST improvement. Seriously, this is one of the best things I've done to the car! It now has side bolstering like a proper seat. I find I don't need nearly as much grip on the steering wheel or dead pedal to hold me in place in corners - much improved feeling of control. Ride comfort is the same or better (for me). The car should come like this from the factory, but lacking an adjustment for the bolsters I can see why it doesn't (big American backsides...) I think this would silence most people who complain that the Vaders are simply for looks. Gotta love the free mods... andy r. 98 m3/2

Juan, 2:1 one of your window sliders are falling apart. These are little $3 rectangular plastic pieces that connect the window rail to the window motor arms. Each front window has two of them and the rear one has one. Eventually the other one will crack as well and the window will either stop moving or drop down into the door. Order a few spares, take the door cover off and replace the sliders (can't miss them). Grease them and the track with lithium grease. Now push the window motor arms into the sliders until the click TWICE. Push them in only with your hand or you risk cracking the window. Or pay someone to do it for you. alex f

You may want to check out the shelving options at...get this....Costco! They carry the same "high-end" steel shelving you see in the Griots catalog...but instead of $500 bucks per unit, they have 'em for less than $80!! The have *very* high capacity...something like 500 lbs per shelf. Each unit has 5 shelves, 18x48 inches, and are fully adjustable. Also, they are mounted on casters, so you can move them around even when loaded to get behind them for cleaning or whatever. I put 4 of these puppies in my garage. You see these same units in industrial supply catalogs for a lot more money. Highly recommended. I've been very happy with mine. HTH Roger '95 M3 RogRacer@aol.com

Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 16:42:50 -0700 From: "David Sanchez" <sanchez918@msn.com> Subject: Piston Rings It turns out that my compression problem on cylinder #4 was due to an over rev by the previous owner. I purchased the car in 1997 with 24,000 miles. My technician used to work for the local dealer and remembers that there was a Daytona Violet M-3 that came in because of an over rev. He is convince that this is the same one. There are only two here locally. The damage to the head is evident, etc. It appears that the dealer did a sloppy job of repairs and then sold the car to me! Anyway, I may be looking for a long block 3.0l used engine. Any suggestions? David M. Way off topic, Sorry I have only received one from someone named "Ariel" and it contained only a txt file stating that attachments are banned on this list. I have received both Klez and Badtrans32 in the last month (not from this list), both of which were nabbed by Norton Antivirus. As a systems engineer it is my job to recommend that everyone purchase, install, utilize and keep updated an anti-virus application. I have used both Norton and MacAfee with excellent results as long as they are kept updated. Contact me directly if you are interested in further discussion. Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 22:55:24 EDT From: ERogers005@aol.com Subject: IFG's For Sale I'm selling off some of the parts from my 95 M3. I have 4 - 8x17 IFG's that have been powder coated in satin black. The wheels are perfectly true and have no dings or blemishes. No center caps. Used too much Loctite originally and had to drill them out. Yoko AO32R's (235/40/17) are mounted on all four wheels and have about 4 - 6 track days left. I'm asking $1,100 + shipping for the package. Prefer CA sale if possible for ease of delivery. Email me privately for pix. Ed Rogers 95 M3 02 M3/SMG

#10. Bedding Hawk HT-10 pads on new rotors - from Eric ///M Foster

Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 22:39:34 -0500 From: "Eric ///M Foster" <e36m3digest@jedinite.com> Subject: Bedding Hawk HT-10 pads on new rotors Everyone, Just replaced the rotors (new OEM from Bimmerworld) as well as brake pads (Hawk HT-10 from Bimmerworld) on my '95 M3. Anyone have suggestions on how to best bed in these new pads and rotors? I've heard a wide variety of advice in this regard over time, and thought this would be a good topic for debate on a slow list night... <grin> Also must say, very much a pleasure dealing with the gentlemen from Bimmerworld. Ordered on Thursday in preparation for a driving school this weekend - rotors were on my door on Monday, pads arrived today (as we were replacing the rotors). Bimmerworld really knows their stuff, and really came through for me in a short timeframe. -Eric ///M Foster http://bmw.jedinite.com
