Your car wouldn't normally have the old plastic impeller water pump (discontinued after 5/96 production), but that doesn't mean that even the better water pump is infallible. You could also have a blocked radiator. Neil 96 M3

Any suggestions? Do you know that the damage extends beyond just the head/valves? It should be possible to repair the top end for much lower cost than a replacement engine. Used M3 engines aren't all that uncommon - apparently due to the propensity of M3 owners to total their cars. However for a reasonable price you may be able to buy a remanufactured unit (i.e. zero miles equivalent), see: http://www.zionsvilleautosport.com/store/shop.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=6134 &Category_Code=E36RE Neil 96 M3

Date: Wed, 24 Jul 2002 19:06:23 -0400 From: m3bs@comcast.net Subject: Re: Sanding Rotors Considering that rotors can be found for a pretty reasonable price these days, I'd be inclined not to risk sanding or even turning. I think the best solution for a dual purpose car is two sets of single purpose brake pads and rotors, which means changing both when you put your track tires on. Next thing you know, you'll be looking for a trailer to haul your car to the track, so you don't have to mess with it. And soon after, by the way, you'll probably need a street car, too! It's that Slippery Slope of Motorsports theory at work. Stoptech has an interesting article on the warped rotor / pad transfer issue. My experience with PF-90 and 97 compounds seems to support the theory. http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/warped_rotors_myth.htm

I know this slope all too well, which is why I'm looking for easy ways around things. ;) I think I'll just take the plunge and get a second set of rotors for the street, and use the current ones for the track. I'm sure I'll be half-assed though, and try to only swap front rotors for now. Jonathan "I don't want a trailer!
