Basically, any gas station or shop with a garage that is certified can give you a NY State Inspection, unless you are in one of those counties near NYC that practice the Gestapo like emissions testing that they do in NJ and CA. If you look, the inspection stickers used in your area differs from the ones used in other parts of the state. #3. MK Motorsport wheels - from Jason Leung

Date: Thu, 25 Jul 2002 22:39:19 -0500 From: Jason Leung <jhleung@earthlink.net> Subject: MK Motorsport wheels Help! Does anybody know where the heck I can get MK Motorsport wheels in style MK1 in size 17x8 ET 38mm for my 1992 325i? I've tried every single retailer I can think of D2Technik, CEC Wheels, BMP, Bavarian AutoSport, Rennen, 1010tires, Tirerack, Discount Tire, etc etc etc .... no luck. All these retailers get MK stuff from one of two distributors apparently: Dazz Motorsport or Wheel Power. Dazz has no more stock of MK stuff and doesn't plan to order any as they are discontinuing the line. Wheel Power only stocks the 18x8.5 size 38mm (which will NOT fit optimally on an e36 4dr non M3 car if you want 245s in the rear....verified by both Buddy [retail] and Aaron [wholesale] at the Tire Rack]. Wheel Power is not interested in taking my order to Germany for a special order of the 17x8 size. I called them twice. Dunno why, probably 'cos nobody on the West Coast wants wheels smaller than 18" !! :-) Will somebody please point me in the right direction? Emails to MK themselves have gone unanswered! My last resort is to get the proprietor of a VW parts retailer in British Columbia who I know well who speaks fluent German to *call* MK and ask .... but this is almost ridiculous as he'd perhaps get a container with a set of wheel and then I'd pay customs back from the Canada to US border !!!! And he won't get *any* discount as he's only getting ONE set!!!! ARRGHHH!!! This is absolutely ridiculous. I have never....EVER had such difficulty getting a part, even for my '85 Citroen CX! It has proved easier to get obscure trim parts for my Citroen than to get these neato German tuner wheels for an e36! Unheard of! Thanks Jason Leung http://home.earthlink.net/~jhleung '92 332i turbo

Actually I am not so sure. Just prior to reading your message I noticed my Aircon had been on for a few days. Although turning it off did not stop the ticking it did make me think that perhaps it was a belt issue. Grr...hate pulling off that undertray to get to the pulleys. Any ideas for how to decide if it is one of these four? > > - VANOS going south > - OE dual mass flywheel going south > - Squeaky belts...this one really annoys me and it seems that every time I > replace the belt, the car goes in for something and they end up spilling oil or > coolant on it! I have a slightly(?) modified e36, so last year I had a cursory "pre-test" performed just in case. The car passed. But when he ran the real test (2500 rpm high speed first) it was on the line this time and failed @ idle so we aborted. I had to take it out & run it hard on the open road then test it quickly in order to pass. -- Roger Baker Jody Shapiro <jshapiro@netgate.net> wrote: > [snip] > Strange.. the first part of the CA smog test is running the car at > ~2500rpm for 3 minutes to make sure the cats get up to temp and really > start doing their job. #8. Steering noise on '95 M3 - from Luis Rueda

Date: Fri, 26 Jul 2002 09:43:42 -0400 From: "Luis Rueda" <Luis_Rueda@Interliant.com> Subject: Steering noise on '95 M3 I'm kinda tired of listening to the creaking the steering makes when I turn from side to side, the noise comes from behind the steering wheel/airbag. I know this is very common on the E36 since I've seen people talk about it at different forums & I had the dealer "fix it" while the car was still under factory warranty. They warned me that the noise would eventually come back & it's here again. According to them, the culprit seems to be some sort of ring located behin the steering wheel. If somebody can please tell me how to fix it or point me to a link where such procedure is described, it would be very much appreciated. TIA, '99 MCoupe '95 M3 '86 325
