Date: Fri, 26 Jul 2002 13:49:55 -0500 From: Mike Frank <mfrank28@comcast.net> Subject: Front bumper cover removal Can anyone tell me how to remove the front bumper cover? My guess would be: 1) remove pork chops 2) disconnect fog lights/temp sensors/etc. 3) disconnect brake ducts 4) I thought there were 2 black trim pieces that popped off to access 2 bolts? Is this correct? If so how do you get these trim pieces to pop off without breaking. (never did this before but vaguely remember hearing something like this). 5) Slide off cover. 6) Whatever I missed Thanks, Mike Frank 97 M3

I've done it many times (don't ask). You also have to remove 2 or 3 screws that fasten the fender liners to the bumper cover. It is handy to have two people when you go to put it back on but that is not essential. Vehicles with hard-to-access systems will be given a tailpipe test.")(?!?) will occur here in WA as well for vehicles from 1996-on, appears to be the roll-in of a federal measure? < http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/air/cars/Automotive_Pages.htm > KimBob

#6. Power steering hose - from Jeff Stowe

Date: Fri, 26 Jul 2002 13:59:32 -0700 From: Jeff Stowe <jrstowe@pacbell.net> Subject: Power steering hose Does anyone know of a supplier to get metric power steering hose from? The M3 needs 12mmID X 18mmOD and 16mmID X 22mmOD hose for the power steering system and I can not find this anywhere in San Jose? My stock set up blew up at Buttonwillow a couple of weeks ago. This was rather exciting as we were exiting a fairly high speed corner when all the power steering fluid was suddenly dumped onto the rear tire. Luckily a more skilled driver than me was behind the wheel at the time and he managed to make a great save! A HUGE thanks to the SSF motorsports Club Racing team (kopecky and kincade ??) who were kind enough to give me a piece of proper hose to make a quick repair and get back on track!! I need to return their supply and I want to do a better homemade solution now that I am back home. Any pointers greatly appreciated! jeff

Anyone have a used driver's side fog light laying around that they might want to sell? :-) I know a new one is only around $50, but i'd want to buy both sides so they'd both be new, and don't wanna do that just yet. :-D Thanks, Chuck Brazeau '95 ///M3 Violet/Black http://www.brazeauracing.com/

Date: Fri, 26 Jul 2002 17:57:50 -0400 From: Rich Beebe <rich@beebecomm.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Front bumper cover removal as lowell said, you're close and it's easy. there are 2 (1 on each side, in front of the tire) screws for the fender liners. there are also 2 screws on each side, that screw up through the pork chops. the black strips on the bumper simply 'pop' out. sort of using a twisting motion, pry the strips out, starting at one end. there are 'clips' on the top and bottom of the strips, that's why the twisting motion helps. i usually remove the smallest, 'toe hook' piece first, then the front plate strip, then the 2 side pieces. this will allow you to remove the 4 13mm bolts that secure the bumper. you should also reach into your brake ducts and pop out the 2 sensors, 1 on each side. you can disconnect the foglights, once you have the bumper partially off. the brake ducts can also be popped off, and left in place, before removing the bumper. btw, once you have everything loose, the spoiler will still be 'clipped' around the fender liners. pull this area out, before you try to pull the bumper forward. when you put it all back together, make sure you get the bumper back in the 'slots', on the sides, near the top of the bumper. that should be everything. rich From: Mike Frank <mfrank28@comcast.net> > Can anyone tell me how to remove the front bumper cover? > > My guess would be: > 1) remove pork chops > 2) disconnect fog lights/temp sensors/etc. > 3) disconnect brake ducts > 4) I thought there were 2 black trim pieces that popped off to access 2 > bolts? Date: Fri, 26 Jul 2002 17:36:06 -0700 From: "Eric Fesler" <eric@fesler.org> Subject: Not Lifter Noise Well apparently the way to tell if ticking is lifter noise or belt noise or vanos noise is to wait until the AC stops working followed quickly by the Battery indicator on the dash coming on and the temperature jumping into the red. Got the car towed home. Both belts AWOL. Anyone have part numbers for the belts I need with the ERT pulley set? Thanks, Eric Fesler

Jason, I have a 4 door 97 M3, and also had heard that there was less tire clearance than the 2-doors. I have a friend who has a 95 2-door, and got 17x9 (ET 45) SSR Integrals to fit with some minor rear rubbing, and he had to roll the rear fenders. I bought a set, with the same 255/40-17 Kuhmo tires he had, and mine fit after I rolled the fenders a little also. I compared his fenders to mine, and the both had the same amount of rolling, and the tires have the same clearance. They both rub a little on the inside of the tire, and barely clear on the outside with a rolled fender. All I can prove is that if there is a difference between the 2-door and 4 door, it is very slight. Visually and practically, both cars have the same clearance issues. It is possible other cars are different though. Maybe other 4 door owners can share there experiences. Chris 97 M3 Happy with the 17x9 ET 45 fitment ----- Original Message ----- > Date: Fri, 26 Jul 2002 10:00:59 -0700 > From: Jason Leung<jhleung@earthlink.net> > Subject: RE:[E36M3] MK Motorsport wheels > > I'm not sure.
