#2. Alternator pulley - H*lp! - from ajoseph1981@earthlink.net

I am trying to install a 140 amp alternator on my '95 M3...upgrading form the 80 amp standard. Now if I'm not mistaken, the 140 amp was an option on our cars, correct? Well, the pulley is the problem...the old one has too much of a shoulder on the back. I ordered one that was for a 328 with the 140 amp alternator, but it has NO shoulder on the back. It needs approximately 5-6mm of shoulder. Could someone poke around and see if they can come up with the right pulley and alternator combination? If all else fails, I guess that I could have the original turned down at a machine shop...do 1mm at a time and test fit in the parking lot, but I would prefer to have the correct one form the start. If any one could help, I would reciprocate in any way I could. Thanks for you time and help! Andrew Joseph ajoseph1981@earthlink.net

Looks like I'd better practice by myself first. Yesterday was spent at Thunderhill with Guido. I just got back from the grocery store - sailed Sal across two lanes in the first quick corner. No, wait, that was "drifting to trackout," yeah, that's the ticket! D On Saturday, July 27, 2002, at 12:53 PM, donna seeley wrote: > I've already justified tracking it. #4. [E36M3] My new (to me) M3 - from Low, Roan

Two days ago I finalized the purchase of an Alpine White M3/2, Magma interior, all options except heated seats, CD changer and Keyless Entry; with 48000 miles on the odometer. Totally stock, it was a one owner leased car. Took it to Midwest Motorsport yesterday (thanks for the recommendations), great bunch of guys there. Have a appointment for an Inspection 2 service with them in August. So far the only issues are: Warped front rotors Possible problems with the rear shock mounts Wrong spare (I have the Double Spoke Forged, the spare is a M Contour) The only cosmetic wear is on the drivers seat left bolster, and it is very slight. So, anyone want to swap a Double Spoke for a M Contour? How about a Grey for a Magma interior? Probably not, but I had to ask. Apart from the Magma interior (I sure hope it grows on me), I'm thrilled to once again drive an M. Cheers, Roan.

Sheesh! Another story from Donna on sliding one of her cars around street corners. How am _I_ the one that ends up getting all the tickets? -peterg (already shopping for my E28 5er for street use, that _has_ to be less of a ticket magnet than the ///M)

#6.5 17X8 MOMO Sport Rims - from Shelhart2@aol.com

Date: Sat, 27 Jul 2002 21:38:51 EDT From: Shelhart2@aol.com Subject: <FS> 5 17X8 MOMO Sport Rims I posted these about 3 months ago after I purchased a set of new BBS RC's for my 1998 M3. I was asking a bit too much... I purchased the Momo's new @ $400 each about 1 year ago and were only mounted for 4 months. They are in excellent cond and have 2 mounted with Toyo Proxes with 60% tread left. I'd like a set of Motorsport wheels and would consider a trade or will let them go for $800 for all 5 (buyer pays shipping). See www.momosport for a quick pic. I'd be happy to send indiv pictures upon request. They are straight and true and have never had any track time. Regards, Shel Hart Orlando , Florida 1998 M3

#7. Oil analysis data point - from David Bauer

Date: Sat, 27 Jul 2002 21:23:50 -0500 From: David Bauer <dbauer@blkbox.com> Subject: Oil analysis data point Well being curious about the Amsoil claims of 12,000 mile oil change intervals I did just that on my Trooper and sent the oil in to Blackstone Labs for analysis. Here are the details: 1988 Isuzu Trooper 47,053 miles Synthetic oil for most of it's life The last oil change was a year ago with Amsoil 10W/30 provided by our own Mel Silva. The filter was Mobil 1 brand. I put just over 12,000 miles on it since then with 1 quart of make-up oil added during that time. Here are Blackstone's comments from the analysis: "Universal averages show typical wear metals for an oil from this type engine after a routine oil run. Your oil was in use 12,000 miles, far longer than the 4,570 miles that is an average oil use run for this type, and we found all wear from the engine at around average levels and in the correct balance to show normal mechanical parts inside. Air and oil filtration look okay. This was 10W/30 engine oil with no gas, moisture or anti-freeze in it. We see no signs in this sample that the oil was run too long. This is a very nice wearing Isuzu engine" The complete report is at http://blkbox.com/~dbauer/misc/oil_rpt.gif Dave '95 M3

Here is answer #1 of 10: For me, with stock springs, full stiff in rear worked out best. It was still comfortable on the street. For front, somewhere between 1 and 1.5 turns from soft worked out well. The front of course is easy to work out on you own, since you can adjust between runs, and find what works best. I would start full stiff in rear for autox. YMMV and all that. Thanks to Jeff, I know realize I have the Modena Nature interior, and not the Magma. Magma is a natural dark tan color that only came with the extended leather interior of the Luxury Package. Modena Nature is a "Ferrari-type chamois/tan" color, available with standard leather Roan.
