#2. M-3 Engine (was piston rings) - from David Sanchez

Date: Sun, 28 Jul 2002 16:31:37 -0700 From: "David Sanchez" <sanchez918@msn.com> Subject: M-3 Engine (was piston rings) Since my head is toast and the #4 cylinder is in bad shape I am exploring buying a new or used engine. I have located a 3.0l with 63k for $4,900. However, a factory new (no miles) engine would run me $6,315. I am struggling with the cost issues. Has anyone experience a similar situation. Any advice from the list members? David M. Date: Sun, 28 Jul 2002 20:25:05 -0400 From: "Steven Hazard" <98m3@attbi.com> Subject: NE BMW Autocross Championships Think your a great Solo II driver? PROVE IT! We plan on making this a yearly traditional event....The idea is to draw the best Autocrossers from each Regional Chapter to compete....The trophies will be large, and we want this to be a stop for all the serious Autocrossers each year. This announcement is also going out to my SCCA contacts, and online at various websites, and Email listservers........... The Boston Chapter runs 8 Autocrosses a year with between 120-160 cars per event. The staff is looking forward to this challenge. We plan on giving all the entrants a minimum of 4 runs on each of the three courses....It could be 5-6 depending on total amount of entries, etc.... Details are up on the provided URL... http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/events/events.asp?id=229 We have several members who will allow co-drivers. Hint, hint! Some of the local members might also be able to provide a room in their houses for the budget minded out of state drivers. There are Hotels close by the Ft Devins runways, and the facility has hosted National SCCA events in the past. The staff is really excited about this Event, and we have decided to let the Mini Coopers play with us also.... I ask that you make sure your local BMW enthusiasts know about this event and I thank you in advance for your help.....anyone can contact me with questions....... Did you use the MB Quart > crossovers, or some other setup? I've had the MB Quart RSB215s in a non BMW car, but I used both a Diamond Sapphire SA1.0x and a PPC 275 to drive them. The PPC 275 was much better and kept them from being harsh. I used the crossovers that came with them with a 6db drop on the tweeters. If I install them in another car, I'll use a 12db drop unless the tweeters are mounted down by my feet. Man they're bright. -matt -- matthew c. mead 97 Dakar M3/4 - sharked, xbraced 97 White GS-R/4 - stock (wife's) 92 Black Miata - dropped, dampened, headed towards SM http://www.goof.com/~mmead/

#7. Instrument cluster success, of a sort - from Jim Bassett

Date: Sun, 28 Jul 2002 18:35:54 -0700 From: Jim Bassett <jimbassett@attbi.com> Subject: Instrument cluster success, of a sort Thanks again to all the feedback I got about the instrument cluster bulbs. I went ahead, and did a trial run on the race car, however. I was getting it ready for a track day on Tuesday and upcoming races, and thought I take the opportunity to extinguish that offensive SRS light <g>. It was made easy on the race car, as it has a smaller race wheel, and tilt. Two screws and out the cluster came. Thanks to Ron Stygar for the pictures of the connectors, they disconnected easily. I removed the obvious bulb, but as Bentley indicated, there was a second, integrated bulb. It was dim, but the job was not complete. So a snip of the blue/black wire, no more SRS light! Now that I've seem the back of the cluster, I have an idea of what bulbs my be burnt out on the M3, so that repair should go smoothly <knock on wood>. Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 KP

Date: Mon, 29 Jul 2002 07:09:32 -0400 From: "Guillermo Molina" <drwillb@msn.com> Subject: RE: Rogue's diff cover I have seen the final diff covers and they look beautiful. The casting looks better made than the factory part and the design has appears to have the necessary bulk for strength. This is a very well made part. The usual disclaimer: I have no connection to Rogue other than being a satisfied customer.
