I've got them, recently installed on my car. I'm running 235/40R18s all around as a reference. I've had MXX3s prior to these, so the MXs have a tough act to follow. Some observations... - pretty quiet for a "max performance" tire, not as noisey at the limit as the MXX3 - grip is pretty good, better than the Supra 712s and Yoko AVS sports (not as good as the MXX3) - sidewall/tread gap is a "visual trick" making the 40-series look taller (but they're not) - tread blocks, while agressive "looking" are cartoon-like, in that they seem really big for the tread. I also considered the Bridgestone S-03s. Got these from Aaron x 395 from the Tire Rack delivered in just 1 day to NJ. I have been told that one should also replace the little rubber spacers and bolts when doing this job? These parts turned out to be the majority of the expense, I think it was upwards of $7 for each bolt, spacer combo and you need 12-16 of them...not sure how many. :) Thoughts? Can you just replace the gasket or does other stuff have to be replaced as well? Noah.

The control arm attaches at the rear via the control arm bushing, which in turn is pressed into a carrier that is fixed to the body by two bolts. Then the arm's inboard ball joint bolts into the front subframe, and its outboard ball joint attaches to the kingpin. If any one of these failed in some way the rest might well break. You may have to have all the above replaced, plus maybe the body mount locations, the strut, kingpin, tie rods, and steering rack. Probably not the PS pump but maybe its lines and hoses. Most of these (except the rack) aren't that expensive, but they do add up, especially with the required installation labour. I'd say it's very important to find out what broke first, although this may not be easy to figure out. Neil 956 M3

When was the filter moved from the horrible location described? It sounds similar to the filter mounting location on my '85 318i, but there was enough room to reach down and work on it. Generally, BMW makes its model changes in August. I believe BMW, as well as most German companies, shut down for vaction during the month of August. [Must be nice!] That means a 7/9X production is a "199X" model year. An 8/9Y production date is the next year or a "199Y" model year. This rule definitely applies to the fuel filter location in the looong 1995 U.S. M3 production run. 7/94 production M3's have the gawd awful location. 8/94 production has the "fall off the log" easy location. BTW: You will notice other subtle changes between the 7/94 and 8/94 M3's such as the gear shift and dash knobs. Ron also says how easy the fuel filter is to change on his '85 318i. I agree! However, you are dealing with a 4 cylinder engine vs. 6. You are also dealing with an '85 vs. '95 model. There is a whole heck of a lot less crap on an 80's vintage model than today - ABS, ASC+T, emission controls, cruise control, ..... Oh the Good 'Ol Days when you could actually see the ground beneath the hood. I remember working on 60's vintage straight 6 Ford pickup truck. I stood INSIDE the engine compartment. I don't normally advocate insurance fraud (although insurance companies are not exactly my best friend.. :) But if the damage is gonna cost must to fix, you probably should. Here's the deal: These things don't just break. This is not a wear item. Either it's a manufacturing defect, in which case BMW should pay, or you hit something which ALMOST broke it, and it just snapped now. If it is the latter, it still counts as an accident, even if it didn't break at the time. A (somewhat) similar thing happened on my 91 Integra -- my father was in an accident with it, and everything was "repaired." A month later, under moderate braking (freeway offramp), I heard a snap, and the car suddenly started pulling violently towards the right. It was driveable, but barely. Broken tie rod (and tie rods also do not just "break"). This was obviously because of the accident. It was pretty cheap to replace, so I just footed the bill, but insurance should have paid for this. I've been using the BMW brush which is pretty stiff and abrasive so the clear coat is now a bit dull. I used some 3M hand glaze on a small spot and the spot looked real nice, but the thought of doing the whole wheel made me cringe. I remember seeing Griot's Garage where they polished an aluminum mag wheel. Uh....$32 for 7 felt bobs? OUCH!
