PrepSol works very well for this. Soak it in prepsol and then run it against some clean thing and its good as new. Cheers, Jason Leung http://home.earthlink.net/~jhleung

Anybody else think that the super-tall-hi-profile center caps that TR makes for these things look like, well, uh, *donkey*? I'm gonna get a set of these wheels but hate the center cap. I'm wonder how these center caps fit in the wheel (screw in I'm told?) and am wondering if anyone has had success either: 1) making a lo-profile one on a lathe 2) getting a lo-profile one from the TR like you see on SSR Comps for Audis all the time 3) Cutting down the hi-profile TR cap to be a low-profile cap? Yeah yeah, I considered running without the caps but this is a street car, not a track car, and hey, I admit it, I like looks. :-) Jason Leung http://home.earthlink.net/~jhleung '92 332i lots'o'speed '85 Citroen CX supreme comfort and gorgeous looks '90 Volvo 240DL indestructible '00 Golf 1.8T The boss' car mit xtra boost.

I talked with one of the main guys at TR about this. He said that the center cap has been redesigned, are lower profile, and will be offered w/a polished ssr logo or roundel version. While I don't know about how much lower the profile is, and I think it would be great if they were flush w/ the wheel, I'm betting they look a whole lot better. Call Jim at 800-428-8355, ext 364 for the full skinny. BTW, the center caps are supplied by TR, and produced for them to their specs. SSR does not provide center caps with the Comps. Another reason late in the 95 build year is superior. ;-) Cheers, Noah. What a pain in the ***! My filter was located above the left front motor mount and is very difficult to access<< Thank goodness its easier to access on the OBDII M3s...Its approx. under the driver's seat, and can access just from underneath.

Can you just replace the gasket or does other stuff have to be replaced as well? I wouldn't replace the rubber bushings unless they are cracked. The bolts are not stretch bolts, so I can't see replacing them either. Just my 2 cents worth Chris Ward 95 M3 (4/94 with crappy fuel filter location) cward@contractlumber.com

#7. RE: Wheels...Felt Polishing Bobs? Easy Off? - from marc@plante.com

Date: Tue, 06 Aug 2002 05:25:46 -0700 (PDT) From: marc@plante.com Subject: RE: Wheels...Felt Polishing Bobs? Easy Off? Odd to read discussion of felt polishing bobs for wheels, while I'm contemplating using Easy Off to get the PF97/rotor residue off of my wheels from the track weekend. The new PF compound is a little harder on rotors below operating temps. they're no longer good at ambient temps like the 90s where) and the rotor residue they scrape off at lower temps ends up crusting onto the wheels. The PF 97s seem to be more like Hawk blues. I ended up messing them up when I was too tired (lazy) to change pads for my drive back from Mid Ohio late May. Just threw on the street wheels to get home (450 mi...rain)...mistake. Unlike the Fikse pilots in the group, I got my *entire* set of BBS RZs in nice shape for $350, so I can contemplate such blasphemous cleaning techniques in a pinch. I remember hearing one lister using Easy Off on his painted rims, which gave me the idea. But has anyone some up with a solution to de-crust polished wheels? Or, does it sound like its somewhere > under the car, in the suspension itself? Yeah, you contributed to the fear a little ;-) I actually had the cracked shock tower thing on my 95 M3, but I was doubtful that it was the problem as I put in the reinforcements on the car when I put in the shocks and didn't see any cracking then. I was more fearful of it being the trailing arm mount b/c of it occuring on an unloaded condition and not on bumps. Current theory is the one of the lower trailing arm bolts is loose as the camber on the left rear doesn't look righ by eyeball. I'll be checking that tonight or tomorrow, depending on time. John

The Tire Rack donated a set of SSR Competitions for a Big Brake test we just did for the Roundel (thanks to Ben Liaw for the idea to call them and ask ;-) and the wheels came with the new center cap. The new cap is smaller in diameter and much lower profile. It now sits flush with the lug area, and doesn't look bad at all. The wheels we got came with the polished SSR cap and it looks great. Very subtle logo treatment. I have to admit, the old cap was ugly enough that I would've just run without any caps whatsoever. As an aside, the big benefit from these wheels (other than their light weight) is that they cleared everyone's big brake kits without spacers. Tire Rack even keeps brake profiles on file to guarantee a wheel will fit with your kit. Yet another example of these guys really going the extra mile for enthusiasts. -peterg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com
