Date: Wed, 7 Aug 2002 11:01:25 -0700 From: "andy radin" <fourfa@fourfa.com> Subject: re: SSR Comps >I thought the SSR wheels WERE forged!?! not exactly... they call their process "semi-solid forging." I'm not a metallurgist, but in general cold forging yields the strongest metal, hot forging slightly less. "Semi-solid" is basically a low red heat, not quite liquid but a *lot* more ductile than cold metal. That doesn't let it develop the long, aligned metal grains that characterize an expensive cold forging. Now I'm not bagging SSR, I'm sure their wheels are stronger than equivalent-weight/design cast wheels (i.e. stock M3). Their price point is between cast and forged wheels, as it should be. SSR always clearly refers to their process as SSF, it's just the users that seem to shorthand them as forged wheels and associate them with IFG, HRE, Volk, BBS type cold forged strength without the $600+ea cold forged cost. As always, TANSTAAFL. andy r.

I only trust Fikse to repair their own wheels. I sent the wheels back to Fikse and they REPLACED the outer half of both wheels for $175 each, then shipped the wheels back to me with new fasteneers. The wheel is just about new. I paid shipping both ways. Tim Ng 95 E36 M3 BzznM3 92 E30 325ic M-tech convetible 91 E30 M3 street car 88 E30 M3 Track car 93 Chevy Blazer 2 dr. tow vehicle

Very strange??? I've used the H&R 15mm on the front for autoxing since last year. Just pulled them off tonight changing tires and they look like new. Never have I heard of the necks cracking off, at least on the autox circuit. I'm assuming you had your wheel lugs torqued down to spec? I'd write H&R and tell them about what happened. They may want you to send them the pieces for metal fatigue analysis. They will probably replace them for free. Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA AS Champion 1997 & 2000 BSP Champion 2001

Doug -------- Original Message -------- Subject: RE: Synchromax Date: Wed, 7 Aug 2002 11:27:36 -0500 From: "David Canitz" <dcanitz@royalpurple.com> Reply-To: <dcanitz@royalpurple.com> Organization: Royal Purple To: <the_buch@telus.net> CC: <jaredm@royalpurple.com> It is true that the product that we package as Synchromax is not a new product within Royal Purple's vast line. The product has been available through our Industrial Division for greater than 10 years in bulk packaging (pails, drums, totes) under a different product name. This comment would have been made (probably by me) to lend credibility to the product as not being a "test" version or "alpha" version but one that has a proven track record to work well in many varied applications. The Synchromax name change and packaging was a decision by RP management to get the product out to the retail public in a package size that fits the need, i.e. quart containers for the smaller volume reservoirs of manual transmissions in passenger cars and trucks. I will not speak for a competitor, but the Synchromax is a fully synthetic high film strength light weight oil formulated to provide improved operation of synchronized manual transmissions, both cone or flat faced, with improved shift feel and quality, yet reducing the operating temperature and wear found in severe high performance applications. Synchromax is formulated with a version of our Synerlec additive system and is recommended for all manual transmissions where the OEM's specify the use of either atf's or motor oils. How that compares with the Redline ATF (MTL) product, well, the member who switched and reported the performance difference seems to have said it pretty well. Sincerely, David Canitz Technical Services Royal Purple Ltd 1 Royal Purple Lane Porter, TX 77365 dcanitz@royalpurple.com -----Original Message----- From: The Buch [mailto:the_buch@telus.net] Sent: Monday, August 05, 2002 11:17 PM To: autotech@royalpurple.com Subject: Synchromax It was recently reported on the e36 m3 listserve that one member found a remarkable improvement (decrease) in short-shifter notchiness when converting from Redline ATF to RP Synchromax. Another member noted that your product has actually been around for a number of years, and was just recently re-packaged, and also suggested differences are minimal between these two excellent products. Your comments and data are appreciated. Regards, Doug
