I replaced the top strut mount @ the same time. The car feels like its bottoming over the bump even when I go over @ a snail pace. I was able to trim about 3/4 of the internal bump stop of the left strut BUT I wasn't able to do the right side as the nut stripped(and these were brand new). Non the less, BOTH side of the front struts feel/sounds like they are bottoming out. Now on smooth roads (lots of them here in the south) the car feel great, it sticks like glue and I love it handling BUT the occassional speed bumps just suck. I always add the shim to the OUTSIDE pad, this way the prongs are not any issue...... most race pads do not have the prongs that you are referring to anyways.... so you can add the shim to the back of either pad.... Adding 1 shim, and then letting the pads wear to what would be now the thickness of 2 shims most likely will get the pads down to the 2/3rd to 3/4qrts worn out and then it is time for replacement..... bob In a message dated 8/8/02 8:43:37 PM US Eastern Standard Time, elliott.paul@worldnet.att.net writes: > > Bob, > > >>Once my brake pads are worn by 1/3rd, > I "shim" the pads in the calipers with > these backing plates<< > > I must be missing something, but, what do you do about the 'prong's that are > attached to the inside pad? Mine sat in a very damp storage facility for a while and now has some funky 'blisters' on the outer shell...I don't think it's safe to use anymore. Pity! Meanwhile back at the ranch: Driver's Ed application out for St. Louis Club event at Gateway in November on www.stlbmwclub.com . It's even cheaper than all those NASA and GGC events you all fight about. 8^) Thanks, Andrew Joseph ajoseph1981@earthlink.net

I've got that stuff from www.chasetechno.com on my ZKW ellipsoids and fog lights. Stays relatively clear (does not yellow) and does not seem to adversely affect light output. I've got HIDs in my low beams and fog lights. I did have a rock destroy a fog lamp lens. The protection film basically kept the lens in one piece, but could not defend it against the UFO. Thankfully, replacement ZKW foglights are pretty cheap. Regards, Ben Liaw Rogue Engineering . 201.444.8150

One bulb is perfect. One bulb was cracked at the base while trying to realign the capsule to make it straight. I think that some epoxy at the base will fix it right up. I think the bulb will still work, but I haven't test fired it. They sent a replacement bulb (which will be included), but it's still a bit crooked and has a blemish. I think I paid $400 for the kit. The ballasts should be perfectly fine. Nothing was ever connected or used. You can probably get a replacement HID bulb from Phoenix Microlight. First $300 takes it. The real question is "which pads have the clips other than the OE pads?" I think the clips do more to reduce rattle than anything else. Regards, Rich

Weird.. Yes, that is what I was saying but may have been a little hasty. They didn't have clips for the E30 application (where the OE pads do have clips). I made the assumption that the E36 M3 application was probably the same. Quite clearly, I could be wrong. Anyone care to chime in as to which E36 M3 pads have the inboard clips and which ones don't? I would appreciate it. So far, we have from Chester that PF90 and PF97 do not have clips? Anyone else have more to add? Regards, Rich
