Also, is there a way to tell if it the driver's side or the passenger side seat sensor? I took it to the dealer because I didn't know whether it was the driver's or passenger's seatbelt sensor. Turned out it was the drivers side one. Though with how much the dealer charged, would been cheaper to replace both myself & have the dealer just reset the airbag idiot light. Andrej '97 M3 > Craig - > I had the same exact problem. I "thought" BMW superceded the original part number with a new sensor. Hence, I thought later model M'3 don't have as many seat belt sensor failures. Lowell Seaton '95 M3 Dallas, Texas

More than likely it's timing related. have you changed your spark plugs recently? checked your coils for cracks? checked the knock sensors? I find that NA M3s rarely get too much fuel... usually it's timing related. -kit -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .

Date: Mon, 12 Aug 2002 14:08:37 -0400 From: "Steve Hazard" <SHazard@nhboston.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] under drive pulleys I have had a ERT UDP on my car for about 60,000 miles. Total mileage on my 98M3/4 is 83K. I have had to replace the A/C belt 3-4 times at Autocrosses, a minor pain, but one I live with. I looked at Jeff's URL regarding a Honda engine with bearing wear and I will reiterate a post I sent last Summer to this board. It was a week before the 2001 OFest at Waterville Valley,NH and I was on the highway heading home. My car at that time had about 60K on her. All of a sudden the Oil Pressure light went on.... I limped off the highway at an exit right in front of me and shut the engine down. Had the car towed and my dealership found that the nut holding the oil pump had backed off, resulting in loss of Oil Pressure. While they had the oil pan off I wanted to make sure that there had been no journal/bearing damage done from the loss of Oil pressure..... The head mechanic said it was pristine! I run NEO 5/30 Synthetics and love the stuff. I find the Honda post interesting, considering my car had virtually no bearing wear for its age. I have had no trouble running this pulley, other than throwing the A/C belt about once a year. I have also read Steve D's White paper and understand his position regarding a harmonically balanced crank pulley and the risks associated with replacing this dampener. Please remember that Steve has a unique relationship with BMWUSA and the dealer network. He does not want to risk this relationship IMO by tooling a UDP for our cars, etc. If I was him I would make the same decision. If their is such a risk with replacing the crank pulley, why isn't their a similar risk when someone replaces the stock flywheel with one roughly 1/2 the weight? If the OEM crank pulley is balanced for a OEM flywheel and you replace the flywheel.........What then????? I'm not talking about the issues of running a LTW flywheel AND A UDP at the same time. I'm just asking a simple question regarding the flywheel at the other end of our crankshafts...There are LOTS of M3's with LTW flywheels, and to a lesser degree some of us are running UDP's instead of flywheels I have yet to hear of any car that had an engine fail from running a UDP, or a LTW flywheel for that matter..... If anyone has heard of a case of this I certainly would like to know. THe UDP issue was debated hotly on this list back in 99. Myself, Jim C, Jim P, and Brian K, and few others went back and forth regarding them. I have run UDP's on 2 previous Yamaha SHO motors also with no problems. The UDP on my car produces a OBVIOUS increase in Torque at all RPM's. I had it off the car for 3 months in 99 and I missed it big time! I'm not saying this is a mod for everyone, in fact I plan on buying a Rogue Engineering flywheel/clutch package along with the accessory pulley kit in the near future when my OEM clutch finally lets go...At that time I will pull the ERT unit off and say thanks for the memories... But I pulled off my URI UDP after about 1 year of use, and will put in a non-crankshaft based UDP such as the current Evosport offering, or a competing offering from UUC or Rogue once such alternatives come to fruition. Recently, use of crankshaft-based UDPs have given me pause as a result of Dinan's well circulated white paper and this: http://www.ntpog.org/reviews/underdrive/pulley.shtml. While a prelude, an inline four, physics remain the same. Jeff > Wayne or anyone else that has them: > > Has your car blown up because of your pulleys? #10. Plastic clutch pedal? - from Burgess, Kim L

Date: Mon, 12 Aug 2002 12:01:54 -0700 From: "Burgess, Kim L" <kim.l.burgess@boeing.com> Subject: Plastic clutch pedal? I have recently noticed the symptoms of 'wandering pedal' on my M. I have seen some discussion of upgrades for the pedal from simple bushing replacement to complete pedal replacement.....but the pedal itself is plastic (or it seems to be). Does anyone out there produce a cast or machined-billet replacement for our plastic clutch pedal? If not, I guess that speaks to the light action of our stock clutch. Kim L Burgess
