The injector is already set to run either way. As far as I know, the only change would've been to stop the CE light from coming on in warm weather (??). That's how I remember it from many moons ago when they were debating on whether or not to have two different injectors. Worry not! You're good to go either way. Date: Tue, 13 Aug 2002 16:19:45 -500 From: Dev Amatya <dmamaty2@unity.ncsu.edu> Subject: I hope my CAT isn't dead, HELP! Hello fellow members, I am kinda new to this site and the whole M3 experience. Anways have a 97 M3 w/ close to 100K miles. I am getting the Secondary Air Flow and Cat past threshold codes. It seems like the Cat is triggering the sensor turning on the check engine light. I am very supprised that the Cat would be dead w/ less than 100K miles...well not that much less. I am oringinally from NC and moving up to Minnesota for grad school. I will be leaving the bimmer w/ my parents in SC b/c don't want snow to corrode such a beautiful vehicle. SC doesn't have emmision laws, so... 1)if the cat is really dead I was wondering if I should remove the sensor that triggers the check engine light??? as a temporary fix. does a dead cat mean a clogged cat or not just converting the emmision properly? 2)also what exactly is the secondary air flow as opposed to primary air flow? is that referring to the air intake, sensor control....or what? 3) Are these 2 codes related??? As an impoverished grad student(owning a high maintenance vehicle), I am searching for the most cost effective solution for the next two years. If not I will have to resort to swindling my parents... Hell, they will be enjoying the vehicle anyways. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY ADVISE AND ANY LEADS THANX!!! DEV

I had the same problem with my old E36 325i and after replacing the alternator everything was ok. What you can do is remove the alternator and bring it in to a alternator shop and have them test it to see if it's producing the required amp. if it's the alternatir you have the option to rebuild the alternator by the shop or just get a new one from BMW. #5. Intake/Chip Packages for '95 M3 (Non-HFM) - from Riley, Scott
Top
Date: Tue, 13 Aug 2002 15:21:19 -0500 From: "Riley, Scott" <sriley@cardinalcapital.com> Subject: Intake/Chip Packages for '95 M3 (Non-HFM) Does anyone know of any tests performed on the various non-HFM intake/chip packages for a '95 M3? Some local fellow trackjunkies are organizing a dyno day and I was considering testing a few of the various packages available from such tuners as Turner, AA, UUC, etc. I know that some people have "issues" with the roar that various intakes produce (Hi Alex!), but performance is my only concern since it will be installed on my club racer. It appears that most kits (Turner & UUC) utilize the same setup (ITG filter with a JimC chip). Therefore, other than price, they should be very comparable. The AA setup appears to use their own chip and intake. The dyno tests for each tuner on their website would lead you to believe that the Turner/UUC kit is better. However, we all know that dyno tests can vary from car to car, day to day and run to run, so I would prefer to do my own test on my car. Thanks for any advice. Scott Riley '95 M3 I-Stock

#6. WTB: E36 Coupe Trunklid - from Riley, Scott
Top
Date: Tue, 13 Aug 2002 15:41:25 -0500 From: "Riley, Scott" <sriley@cardinalcapital.com> Subject: WTB: E36 Coupe Trunklid I am interested in a rear trunklid from an E36 Coupe, preferably in Cosmos black with an factory M3 spoiler on it. I am currently running a LTW spoiler with risers on my '95 M3 club racer. However, rather than removing the risers by disassembling the LTW spoiler when I don't need as much rear downforce, I was thinking that it may be easier to just install a different trunklid with a lower (i.e. factory, non-LTW) spoiler already installed. I will consider other colors as well since most likely I will have to repaint it, but it must have the factory spoiler installed. I'm hoping that there are some salvage cars out there with a perfect trunklid. Thanks. Scott Riley

It's made by Eurosport High Performance and Jim Conforti - see www.sharked.com . Compare the pix: http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com/images/intake/intake_jimc_car_sm.jpg from http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com/intakes.html http://www.turnermotorsport.com/image/intake_exhaust/intake_jimc_bosch_car_s m.jpg from http://www.turnermotorsport.com/subcategory_detail_frame.asp?subcat_id=88 I personally run the Eurosport/Conforti setup (non-HFM) on my 1995 M3 and flat out love it. The three major players in this market would be Eurosport/Conforti (sold by UUC, Turner, etc), ECIS (also sold by AA), and Dinan (sold by, well, BMW dealers I guess). A comparison would certainly be helpful. We've been thinking about doing the same thing with all three brands, open track time, and a G-Tech here. Certainly not as accurate as a dyno runs but would give a good example of a comparison. If you do end up doing this, I'd certainly be interested in the results. Though I'll say this - my money will be the setup designed and sold by Eurosport and Jim Conforti. Thanks, Eric ///M Foster http://bmw.jedinite.com

There are red and yellow dots on the sidewalls of tires that indicate something. From memory it's either the high and low point of the tire or the heaviest and lightest point, I can't remember which. Also, which dot indicates which condition (Red = x, Yellow = x)? Thanks for the memory jog. I'm on digest so if you could reply directly it would be great. TIA, Peter Fanning '98 M3/4
