Date: Thu, 15 Aug 2002 23:11:18 -0600 From: "Rob" <motor@cadvision.com> Subject: WTB: 17" 3 piece wheels I am looking for a set of used 17" E36 wheels. They must be of the lightweight 3 piece variety (Fikse, Forgeline, Kinesis, etc) and 8.5" or 9" wide. I would also consider a set of good 'ol IFG's. Thanks, Rob - still kicking myself for selling my FM5's!

It did not boil over but did climb into the red but was able to stop and cool things down and limp home. My guess is the thermostat and/or water pump. Any suggestions on how to determine if the water pump still works and if the thermostat is good without removing them? Did the 97 328is have the plastic impeller in the water pump? David

#6. Anyone know part numbers for LTW spoiler extension HARDWARE? - from Geof McLaughlin
Top
Date: Fri, 16 Aug 2002 08:14:29 -0400 From: Geof McLaughlin <gfmiiilist@attbi.com> Subject: Anyone know part numbers for LTW spoiler extension HARDWARE? I have the ETK and have looked to the M3 GT bumper trim diagram and tried to figure out what HARDWARE is needed to bolt on the M3 Lightweight spoiler extensions, but it's no so easy. It looks like the hardware should be some longer plastic rivets and longer screws similar to those that hold on the normal bottom lip of the spoiler. So can anyone that has had direct experience with mounting the Lightweight spoiler extensions onto their front bumper cover help out? part numbers? Also, the Lightweight aluminum/plastic air duct has holes in the aluminum bottom section. Do these actually mount to anything or does it only mount with the four screws at the top on the plastic section like the normal one? Thanks. Geof

The engine turns over fine, but it must not be getting fuel or spark. After opening the hood I discovered a slight buzzing noise (with the ignition off) coming from a relay next to the fuse box. I pulled the relay and the noise did stop. I'll replace the relay today if my BMW dealer has it in stock, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Thank you, Chris Ward 95 M3 (buzzing relay)

#8. [E36M3] Rear Speaker Replacement - Installing 6.5" speakers - from Colin_S_Whelan@rrfc.raytheon.com

Date: Fri, 16 Aug 2002 08:29:19 -0400 From: Colin_S_Whelan@rrfc.raytheon.com Subject: [E36M3] Rear Speaker Replacement - Installing 6.5" speakers Hi guys, Well, I blew one of my rear deck speakers last night, and this in a car where I rarely ever turn the volume up at all! It's the crappy stock system (non-HK), with get this, OEM Nokia speakers! Aren't they supposed to make cell phones! Anyways, since I was looking for a quick solution (since I'm not a big audiophile) and was going to put the stock crap back in, I decided to take a trip to the local audio chain. Prior to this, I removed the rear speaker assembly, opened the sealed speaker enclosure (with a bunch of careful prying with screwdriver) and ripped out the 6 1/4" speaker. I tested fitted a few speakers at the store, and found that Polk's 6.5" almost fit. (For real audiophiles, I sure there are much better speakers in 6.5" that will fit). I grabbed a pair of their EX365s and went home for some custom work :) I made a number of cuts with my dremel along the circumference of the circular top piece that mounts to the rear shelf, so that it would spread open a bit when I pressed the slightly larger speaker into the opening. With about 8 cuts, I could just barely press the new speaker into the existing opening. The friction fit is so tight, it's never coming out. Finally, I re-attached the plastic bucket that encloses the speaker with some clear sealant and a few screws to hold it in place. No need to change any wiring since the new and the old speaker had the same connectors. Anyways, no more blown speakers, and there's much better "fill" than before. Now, I'm going to have to replace the crappy fronts, and then the amp... A nice little upgrade actually, and it looks totally stock. -Colin '98 M3/2 (JC intake + soft, Dinan suspension, X-brace, Polk speakers...)

It's not attached but fits snuggly around the fan and completely surrounds it. There was no way to get the fan out without the shroud or the shroud without the fan, other than pulling the radiator, probably not the best idea. Maybe one of the pros can give better advice but I couldn't figure any other way. We pulled the radiator anyway since we were replacing the pump, thermostat cover and all the hoses. Date: Fri, 16 Aug 2002 09:15:05 -0400 From: "JUSTIN GERRY" <JGERRY@butchers.com> Subject: Re: popping out of gear/reverse gear troubles Most of the 2nd gear pop outs I've seen are usually caused by: 1) Driver mis-shift (did not quite engage the gear properly). 2) Worn tranny mount, usually it will pop out trying to hit 2nd gear while turning the car. On occasion you get some sort of mechanical issue, bent shifter fork, misaligned shifting linkage etc.. For those of you who have trouble getting it into reverse after a spirited romp or when the tranny is cold; At idle try putting the shifter into 4th and then try reverse. This trick works great on cars without a reverse gear syncro/high mileage trannys/worn clutches/worn linkages etc. Every BMW I've owned has had trouble with reverse until I did the 4th to reverse trick. I learned that trick from an old British car mechanic and it has not failed me yet.. -Justin -- '76 02 (Whimsical) '97 M3 (Orion) BMW CCA#77056 check out http://users.vei.net/jgerry
