Yes, you can look at your oil filter housing to determine what is going on and what problems may lie ahead. My oil filter housing where the stock idiot pressure sender threads into the oil housing is basically flush with the housing. Most of the 1996 E36s and beyond where the stock idiot pressure sender threads into the oil housing actually protrudes outward from the housing. See picture here of Jim Powell's 1997 M3: http://www.apexcone.com/Gauges/oct12_07.jpg http://www.apexcone.com/Gauges/oct12_08.jpg Anyway, see where the JTD Block attaches and the lower sending unit threads into the bottom of the block, since mine is flush (like most E36s from 1995 and before), the lower sending unit will interfere with the housing and you are unable to properly tighten the banjo bolt to the housing causing it to leak severely. Check your housing and see if it is like the one in Jim's pictures or not. If it is not, you will have a problem and won't be able to use the JTD oil distribution block. Also, there aren't any answers to be found in the ETK. This was just a production variance. Only one diagram exists in the ETK for the US oil filter housings although there is an old and a new part number which may or may not be related to this issue. Later, Rich

Thanks for pointing out what to look for, Rich. I've got a color printout of the photo and will be heading to my mechanic's tomorrow morning to check the housing. Jim

Someone recently reported it was seen along 101 south of San Jose a couple of months back, but I've seen it used over the last week during the morning and afternoon commutes over 17. The car is an all white 2002 Camaro with low key markings - small CHP logo on the doors only. The light bar is very hard to see from a distance (it's about 2 inches tall) and by the time you do notice it, you are well within its radar range. Naturally, it also has the latest instant-on mobile radar. The original poster about this car mentioned that can do 150+. Just thought I'd pass along the info. - Bob

#8. Fan Shroud removal/installation - from Lew Becker
Top
Date: Fri, 16 Aug 2002 21:04:40 -0700 From: "Lew Becker" <lmbeckercfls@earthlink.net> Subject: Fan Shroud removal/installation There's also a coolant hose (approx. 1" dia) running through a cut-out in the lower left portion of the shroud -- the hose runs from the bottom of the coolant reservoir below and around the fan ((inside the shroud) and out through the cut out to a location under the intake plenum (that's extremely difficult to get to with a Dinan SC installation). Even after you remove the fan and shroud fasteners, this hose may interfere with your lifting out the shroud (especially with your Dinan SC installation, where the hose is clamped to the front portion of the left frame rail). It's not attached but fits snuggly around the fan and completely surrounds it. There was no way to get the fan out without the shroud or the shroud without the fan, other than pulling the radiator, probably not the best idea. Maybe one of the pros can give better advice but I couldn't figure any other way. We pulled the radiator anyway since we were replacing the pump, thermostat cover and all the hoses. So, now that Ive managed to crack mine, how do I manage to install a new one...first I guess I need to remove it AND the fan, and take them out together? But, as I recall, to remove the fan, you need to loosen (reverse threaded) the fan nut...Then it comes out easy...But you say they come out together...Does this mean whenever you remove the fan, the shroud comes out with it? #10. RE: [E36M3] SF/Monterey Bay Area FYI - from Bob Lenarcik
Top
Date: Sat, 17 Aug 2002 10:49:43 -0700 From: Bob Lenarcik <lenarcik@pacbell.net> Subject: RE: [E36M3] SF/Monterey Bay Area FYI Ouch! I had a similar experience with a CHP on 17 recently. I had my wife and kids in the M3 and we were heading home around 10:30 PM on Friday night and I was keeping up with the flow of traffic - around 57 or so. There were cars passing me at 70+ and one decided to slow as he caught up to me and sit in my blind spot in the left lane. I tried to put some distance between us so I sped up a bit and then slowed back down once there was no one in the next lane. Next thing I know someone's tailgating me 3ft off my bumper at 55! I accelerated again, signaled a lane change to pass the car ahead of me and just as I started the change, the lights went on. The jerk tried to nail me for 65 in a 50 as he was "trying to keep up" but he just told me to slow down. I normally pay the fine if stopped (5 times in 20+ yrs), but this one I would have gone to court for. That idiot was putting my whole family in danger! I think he just picked me out because it was an M3. BTW, the Santa Clara county Sheriff has an older white Camaro that's been nailing speeders on Quito Road near the Campbell/Saratoga border. It's marked a lot clearer and uses the older K-band radar, but he seems to be real effective at revenue generation. Be careful out there! - Bob -----Original Message----- From: Mel Silva [mailto:melsilva@mindspring.com] Sent: Friday, August 16, 2002 7:52 PM To: E36M3 Subject: RE: [E36M3] SF/Monterey Bay Area FYI Date: Fri, 16 Aug 2002 21:43:45 -0500 From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] SF/Monterey Bay Area FYI I think that the CHP got the idea from the city of Campbell (Same general vicinity for those that don't know, near the intersection of I880 and 280, in CA).
