Rich and Jim, I had the same problem in my 5/94 production year 95 M3. Nice oil mess. anyway you can still use the JTD block, but not the bottom port. This needs to be blocked off with the extra bolt that is supplied with the part. I purchased another pressure sender from VDO that did both the gauge and the idiot light on the dash. What to look for? > Since the gauges are going into the 1993 325is, and I was planning on using > the JTD block, any help is appreciated. Yes, you can look at your oil filter housing to determine what is going on and what problems may lie ahead. My oil filter housing where the stock idiot pressure sender threads into the oil housing is basically flush with the housing. Most of the 1996 E36s and beyond where the stock idiot pressure sender threads into the oil housing actually protrudes outward from the housing. See picture here of Jim Powell's 1997 M3: http://www.apexcone.com/Gauges/oct12_07.jpg http://www.apexcone.com/Gauges/oct12_08.jpg Anyway, see where the JTD Block attaches and the lower sending unit threads into the bottom of the block, since mine is flush (like most E36s from 1995 and before), the lower sending unit will interfere with the housing and you are unable to properly tighten the banjo bolt to the housing causing it to leak severely. Check your housing and see if it is like the one in Jim's pictures or not. If it is not, you will have a problem and won't be able to use the JTD oil distribution block. Also, there aren't any answers to be found in the ETK. This was just a production variance. Only one diagram exists in the ETK for the US oil filter housings although there is an old and a new part number which may or may not be related to this issue. Later, Rich

You can get the exact speed with the OBC (press ave speed and then reset for current speed). 146-147 is about the highest I've heard for a stock M3. I know I wasn't doing 165mph when I was driving thru the desert from CA to NJ even though the speedo was indicating it. -Bobby 98 M3 sharked and some other stuff ps. Date: Mon, 19 Aug 2002 10:45:08 -0400 From: "JUSTIN GERRY" <JGERRY@butchers.com> Subject: Re:Climate Control Issue Yes there is a crack somewhere on the PCB, probably at the main connector. I tried to reflow the solder on the main plug after removing the Fan control unit (it just pushes out after you remove the OBC). That only lasted a week or two. Got sick of pulling out the fan control unit at stop lights and I got it replaced. I was able to get mine covered under CPO for $50. New they are about $200 or so. It has a newer firmware as well and some of the weird bugs that I had in the original unit disappeared. Core charge on the old unit if I remember right so if you do decide to repair that unit be careful that you don't visibly damage it. -Justin -- '76 02 (Whimsical) '97 M3 (Orion) BMW CCA#77056 check out http://users.vei.net/jgerry

Date: Mon, 19 Aug 2002 11:08:19 -0400 From: "Ward, Chris" <CWard@ContractLumber.com> Subject: was buzzing relay To recap my original e-mail, my car stalled Friday when I was at idle. The rpm's did not surge, it was like the ignition had been cut off. When I opened the hood, I heard a strange buzzing sound coming from the Fuel injection relay. I replaced the relay, but that did not fix the problem. The car turn's over fine but will not fire. There is a noise coming from under the intake manifold that sounds like a pump running that I have never heard before. I haven't been successful reading the engine codes yet, I must not have any rhythm. Can someone point me in the right direction? Chris Ward 95 M3 (big yellow paperweight for now)

The shop (Curry's Auto Service - Chantilly, VA) says the M3 is "special" and costs more to align. Comments? Wes '95 M3

Standard instructions always seem to call for using no sealant on the sender threads, since they need to make an electrical ground connection to the mounting location. However I've found that a single tightly stretched wrap of Teflon pipe tape will help make the seal, while the threads will still cut through and assure a ground. Neil 96 M3

There is no difference in aligning an M3, a 318, or a 750. I paid $150 for an alignment and cornerweighting my LTW at a shop here in Atlanta. And I do know there were a couple dealers doing 4-wheel alignments for $60. I can't imagine too many people actually > test this out or have the "opportunity" to. No, just not many people on the east coast have the opportunity to do it.. :) I've hit the limiter in my 95 M3 at least 10 or 15 times in 1 year of ownership. On my car, the limiter kicks in at 143 indicated.. very obvious, it cuts throttle until you slow to 140 or 141 indicated, and then kicks back in. I verified (via an all-gear-run on a dyno) that the road speed where the limiter kicks in is indeed 137, just as BMW says. I have a friend who has bested 160 (I think he hit 161 or 162 before backing off) in a restricted Benz, which is, of course, supposed to be limited to 155 like the big BMW's. Same deal, speedo "error". It's not really error, its' calculated to be a bit high for various legal reasons. I am surprised you made it to 145 indicated, perhaps your speedo error is higher than mine, or maybe you really are unrestricted. I think my top-speed-run days are over since getting a well-into-the-triple-digets ticket though... - reid
