#4. They said it couldn't be done - from Mel Silva

Date: Fri, 30 Aug 2002 21:46:29 -0500 From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> Subject: They said it couldn't be done I asked in open forum, a week or two ago, what I could do with these awesome Infinity Kappa 6x9 speakers had left over from Pepe (my Mustang) when I sold him. I got various responses across the spectrum from "in the trash heap" to "get an adapter from the UK to utilize them". Not willing to take "no" for an answer, I have documented my little adventure. The following diary in pictures ensued. http://www.amt.org/mel/Penny_Speakers.htm Enjoy. Mel

I had actually considered exactly the same thing but with some MB Quart 6x9s. I'm glad to now have instructions should I ever do it. I've got a PPC275 and a SA1.0X sitting collecting dust along with a set of RSB215s. -matt On Fri, Aug 30, 2002 at 09:53:42PM -0500, Mel Silva wrote: > Date: Fri, 30 Aug 2002 21:46:29 -0500 > From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> > Subject: They said it couldn't be done > > I asked in open forum, a week or two ago, what I could do with these awesome > Infinity Kappa 6x9 speakers had left over from Pepe (my Mustang) when I sold > him. #7. Why does my car of the front-end heebie-jeebies? - from Jason Leung

Date: Sat, 31 Aug 2002 09:22:52 -0500 From: Jason Leung <jhleung@earthlink.net> Subject: Why does my car of the front-end heebie-jeebies? Can someone tell me why my front end shakes at highspeed? 1) In the morning, the car was fine. I had 4 Bridgie S02s and four wheels that I have had on the car a few years. 2) In the afternoon, I replaced all 4 wheels of the car with new wheels. Used the old front tires (s02). Put new rear tires on the car on the new wheels on the rear (s03) ... car had the shakes at like 65 mph and above. 3) Pulled a u turn and drove back to the Tire Rack. They pulled off the front wheels and discovered that they were both bent .... they had dropped a pallet of these wheels the other day and think these front wheels were part of that pallet (dropped as in dropped like 35 feet) 4) The Rack swapped in 2 more new front wheels.... they checked the runout and checked for bends before putting them on the car ... I watched....the new wheels looked fine. 5) Drove home. Car has the shakes. But less. But still has the shakes. I can feel it through the steering wheel. I'm baffled! The wheels are not bent. What's up? Could it be the tires? The tires were fine on the old wheels. Could the lightness of new wheels bring out flaws in old front tires? Hubcentric rings are in place. Wheels/Tires are balanced on the most sophisticated looking balancing machine I have ever seen. I am not using spacers. What's up? If you are local to Chicago, can you recommend a tire-jockey that would check the balance for me? Most grateful, Jason Leung '92 332i

Get the wheels balanced by a Hunter machine that measures the road force variation and rim/tire runout (model 9000???). There's no substitute for that machine. If it (with the proper operator ;) can't balance a wheel, nothing can. Make certain it is not your rotors causing the shakes! Warped rotors can transmit vibration to the steering wheel too. The way to check is if you can change the severity of the shakes by modulating the brake pressure.
