#2. shock replacement (Koni DAs)-help - from Mdriver13@aol.com
Top
Date: Sun, 1 Sep 2002 14:58:45 EDT From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: shock replacement (Koni DAs)-help Group, Well it's a rainy day here in PA, so I decided to start my lastest project: replace OEM shocks with Koni DA on the rear. I went through the process of removing the OEM shock on the right side without removing the rear shock mount (JTD type), just removed shuttle from top side. Slick procedure. Problem I see is that there is a cup shaped metal piece that fits onto the top of the shock dust boot but it has a 10mm ID hole, not 12mm. The Koni DA have a 12mm shaft. Is this piece necessary? Also the top metal piece that rides against the RSM bushing has a 10mm opening too. I know this is needed to torque down the top nut. What have others done? I can see either reeming out the hole to 12mm or using large flat washers with 12mm or half inch holes. Can't get the top nut off on the left side, but that's a different problem. Looks like I'll have to remove the whole RSM and drop the shock out the bottom. Dealer tighened this one down too tight when he replaced my RSMs. :-( TIA, Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA AS Champion 1997 & 2000 BSP Champion 2001

#3. car cover with ltw wing - from John Bergstrom

Date: Sun, 1 Sep 2002 14:30:42 -0700 (PDT) From: John Bergstrom <john0990@yahoo.com> Subject: car cover with ltw wing Geof, I agree with Andrew, the cover I had that fit my '97 M3 without any wing now fits my '95 M3 with lightweight wing, spacers installed. I think it is a Covercraft standard E36 M3 cover. Hope this helps - John >>>Does anyone know of a supplier for car covers that would fit a M3 Lightweight with the high wing (i.e.with extensions installed)?<<< __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? They had one made for me by Noah just by giving the dimensions needed. I don't believe the cost was over the top either. What I can say is that the cover isn't waterproof. It is just water resistant. It resists the sun very well as my car was cool even when 100degree sun was beating down on it. Id recommend it only if its a last resort. Wind really knocked it around too and scuffed my paint a bit over the fenders. Needless to say, I was much happier when I got it back in the garage. Alex "HyperM3" Demsky 97 S/C M3

#5. X brace - from Pilewan23@aol.com
Top
Date: Sun, 1 Sep 2002 20:34:30 EDT From: Pilewan23@aol.com Subject: X brace <PRE> I was installing the X brace in my 95 M3, and the rivet nuts(those push in threaded things) would just keep on turning. I put in the insert, then the X brace, then the washer folled by the bolt. Is this correct? as I got no instructions. The inserts continue to turn as I'm tightening the bolt, not allowing it to be tightened adequately.

#6. slow loss of coolant - from Gary A. Preece

Date: Sun, 1 Sep 2002 21:35:28 -0400 From: "Gary A. Preece" <gapreece@entreky.net> Subject: slow loss of coolant Need ideas on where to look for the leak. I replaced the hoses, water pump, t-stat housing, t-stat, radiator and radiator cap. There does not seem to be any in the oil that I can see. The reservoir neck does seem to be a little out of round, but I cleaned it real well and see NO hint of seepage. Should I get my oil analyzed? Will it test for coolant? If I keep adding distilled water I will have no coolant left. It has gone done 1.5" in two weeks. Thanks. I am stumped. A coolant pressure test and/or a leakdown test should confirm this. These m50/s50 heads are pretty fragile and seem to crack easily. I hope for you that it's not the problem, but if no visible leakage occurs, and you still loose coolant, - it's probably cracked. I've got 2 heads on the shelf with the same exact problem. Mid-95's on should have them installed already. There is a writeup on the rivnut and xbrace installation at: http://www.unofficialbmw.com/main.html Click on E36, then scroll down to see "E36 Ron's Xbrace Install" under suspension. that should get you going. #10. Charging Problems - from PDumond21@aol.com
Top
Date: Mon, 2 Sep 2002 18:13:25 EDT From: PDumond21@aol.com Subject: Charging Problems I have a '97 M3 coupe and am having problems keeping a charge on my battery. I replaced the alternator about a year ago and the battery is brand new. I had the alternator checked out today and it checked out fine. I'm not sure what could be draining the battery. When the car is running with nothing on, the voltmeter is reading at about 11 volts. Once I start turning on some accessories, the volts start to go down. Is there anything I am over-looking? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Paul
