Date: Tue, 03 Sep 2002 08:38:39 -0700 From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: Alignment Liars (A question too) I'm currently running H&R Sports, Koni s/a and TC Kline Camber/Caster plates. When I originally got the suspension done, they claimed that they set the aligment to -2.0° of camber in the front. I never thought twice about it, however I was impressed at how great my car felt on track, how easily it rotates and how much more noticeable the -2° looked compared to the -1.8° I used to run with shims. After R/R of the drivers struts/springs on Friday, I went to get it all realigned... The right side was never touched and we got everything back on almost exactly as it was when we took it off. Up on the rack and the readings came back as -3.2° on both sides. This was the *least* amount of negative camber we could dial in too. No complaints, as I wanted to try -3 anyway, just to see what the difference was... Guess I don't need to, since that's what I've been running for about a year now. With -3.2 front and -1.5 in the rear, I guess it's easy to understand why my car rotates so easily. Never spun the car, but will probably still try to get the rear changed to -2.0, just for fun. Anyway... We thought we had fixed my problem (front end clunk coming from the upper spring perch). A large washer was cracked and the monoball bearing had a tiny bit of play, so both were replaced. That was good for about 20 minutes... Now the noise is back. If you raise the car enough that you can grab the spring, you can shake it a bit and see that there's a bit of play up top (seems like it's the upper spring perch/hat), yet nothing else "looked" bad when we took it apart. I'll be taking my car in AGAIN for this at the end of the week. Any suggestions on what else to check? Thanks, Jonathan L. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx

#2. Another quick camber question - from twisty M3

Date: Tue, 03 Sep 2002 09:43:45 -0700 From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: Another quick camber question I'm thinking of possibly taking out my TC Kline camber/caster plates and just trying out the swapped strut hats (my mechanic isn't all that happy about the plates). Besides, if I even start racing in H-Stock, the adjustable plates wouldn't be allowed anyway. Does anyone run the swapped hats WITH H&R sports and Konis? If so, please let me know your front end alignement settings. I'd like to get as close to -3° camber and keep the caster at 7 if possible. (I assume toe can still be manipulated with no problems) If no one runs the swapped hats with H&R Sports, would anyone care to venture a guess as to how much neg. camber you'd get (assuming -2 with stock springs and whatever change may occur with the drop in ride height?) Anyone with info, please let me know. Thanks _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com

Yes, the Shark Injector contains the appropriate SW for the intake. The pre-Injector SW that some of us have was not optimized for the intake and had to be re-Sharked. (You're not on the UUC Digest? JimC made a brief re-appearance there, and that was one of the topics covered.) Cheers, JimB :-) 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 KP

How many miles have you driven since then? Have you bled the air out of the system with the heater turned on max heat? Some cars take a lot longer to purge the air out of their cooling systems than others. Mine is typically done within 30 minutes. A friend's car takes 3-4 days of driving before all the air is gone and the water level stabilizes. > Should I get my oil analyzed? Will it test for coolant? That would be one way to rule out head gasket issues. > If I keep adding distilled water I will have no coolant left. > It has gone done 1.5" in two weeks. Is that 1.5" of coolant in the reservoir? If so it's nothing. If it is another unit of measurement (quarts?), than please clarify. alex f

#9. Engine cutting out, any ideas - from Matt Henson
Top
Date: Tue, 3 Sep 2002 11:14:12 -0700 (PDT) From: Matt Henson <hensonator@yahoo.com> Subject: Engine cutting out, any ideas Hey Gang, My turbo M3 has been cutting out lately. I'm hoping that someone else has seen this. Here are the symptoms: '95 (early) M3 with 80K miles Fuel filter was recently replaced, didn't solve the problem. The cut seems to occur mostly at part throttle. The electricity is still on but the engine just stops going. It isn't a sputter so much as a complete lack of power. If I put it in neutral it will just die. I discovered ysterday that the problem often occurs on left hand turns. It doesn't have to be a long sweeper; I got it to cut yesterday while turning left at a light. There was 1/4 of a tank of fuel. I haven't noticed it doing it any more or less when the fuel level changes. The car occasionally stalls at idle when the A/C is on, especially 1st thing in the morning when it's on an incline. The suddenness of the drop makes me think it might be ignition related, but the correlation with the turn makes me think fuel. I'm wondering if the added pressure and stress from the forced induction may be sending my fuel pump to the grave. Any ideas or other suggestions for diagnosing the problem? Thanks, Matt __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Finance - Get real-time stock quotes http://finance.yahoo.com
