It was like that when we bought it. The dealer gave us $300 off because the tech stated there was no fix short of a new one. So your stuck getting a new head unit, might I suggest an aftermarket piece. Paul

#3. dead battery - from Paul Elliott

Date: Thu, 5 Sep 2002 11:04:27 -0400 From: "Paul Elliott" <elliott.paul@worldnet.att.net> Subject: dead battery Hi Matt, >>My M3 has had the OEM battery for 8 years, 4 months and counting. You can't do that with a maintainance free unit<< My OEM battery gave up the ghost about 6 mos ago, after just 2.5 yrs. I replaced it with another from the dealer, but if IM not mistaken, this one had no cells for water addition, although it looked identical otherwise. My mind may be deceiving me, but I just seem to remember at time of installation noting there were no fillup ports. Does anyone else have one of these? Any other bushings I should have replaced to avoid everything being torn apart again in the near future? Thanks! Date: Thu, 5 Sep 2002 11:25:27 EDT From: HYPERM3@aol.com Subject: starting issues Hey all, As some of you may or may not have been following, my car has been having starting issues lately. Recently, upon startup after gagging for a while and then firing, it blows out a plume of white/grey smoke. I know this can't be good. Anyone have any ideas or thoughts? I actually need a decent tire (not about to cord) sized 235/40/17. If you have a pair of either 245/40 or 225/45 contact me privately. OR maybe someone can take away my 235/40/17s. I have 3 of them with a lot of meat whereas one of them appears lean. Chester, I don't have pics but I've seen a few on Arctic Silver and Titanium Silver in CA. They look awesome. A tad bit more downforce than the factor stock wing. Looks much better IMO. -Bobby ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chester Wong" <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> > > I'd like to entertain the thought....so if ya have pics, please share, share, > share! > > TIA, > Chester > > ===== >

I'd get minimal blower effect, no matter the temp., and then suddenly full-blast. That didn't last long, however, and it ende up just staying at a mellow fan level at all times... No matter what temp you set the unit too or how high you made the display *look like* it should be blowing. AC and heat still worked, just very low. Don't know how I managed through winter and desert heat, but I didn't get it fixed for at least 9 months! We thought it might be the control unit, so we ordered one and had it ready to go... Wasn't it, though. It ended up being some sort of resistor(??). This really funky looking 12-pronged... Thing. ;) Not sure exactly what part it was, but my mech. just happened to have a used one he put in at no charge, and that solved it. Of course, since it was used, it'll probably go out again, but I'm thanking god every muggy day for full-power AC. #11. Free beer in exchange for M3 support. - from Mount, Mike

Date: Thu, 5 Sep 2002 08:58:05 -0700 From: "Mount, Mike" <JMMn@pge.com> Subject: Free beer in exchange for M3 support. That's right all you east bay list'ers, I'll come buy and drink your beer for FREE while watching you work on your M3 to get ready for the Sept 21/22 track weekend/school at beautiful Buttonwiller Raceway Parque. In fact, Jonathan (twistyM3) and I can make this a team effort and we can even go for dinner over the weekend! Wow, too good to be true, huh? No really, it is true. Really. So, the facts are that Jonathan is heading up this weekend to the SJ/east bay area but only for the weekend. I'm being deported for 2 weeks for some training in San Ramon and arriving Sunday but will have evenings open. Some of the listers can attest to the fact that not only can I crash an M3, but I can work on them too. So if any of you east bay M3'ers need some help on your car, don't be 'fraid to ask. Mike
