Of course this is the curse of the modified car: everything we do seems to add a new item to the inspection list. Neil 96 M3

Yes, the tech bulletin I quoted, which covers both types, recommended replacement every 2 years/20 races for steel arms, a slightly more lenient 2 years for Al. > Unfortunately, the ball joints on the E30 M3 control arms are not > replaceable. You have to replace the entire control arm. Like our E36 M3 arms. > Sorry, but I don't have any strength data on the E36 M3 or E46 M3 control > arms. That would be extremely interesting to know. You'd think/hope that the designs would have improved with successive car generations. It's interesting that the E46 aluminum arm some 54% more massive than the equivalent E30 part. Neil 96 M3

Gary Richardson was also driving this car, so I am guessing it may be Gary's car. Now if we can only get a full list of modifications made. ;-) BSP runs tommorrow/Friday, so let's hope Bob Tunnell can beat those C4 Corvette's! Chris 97 M3/4

It has a Dinan supercharger, with Moton shocks from Bob Tunnell's BimmerHaus. Jeff lives two blocks from me and Gary is the owner and lives a few blocks from my old house. We had a big bench racing session about a month ago and Gary detailed what he had done to the car, but I can't remember it all right now. :-) Too many beers that night. >:-0 I am pretty sure it is the full Bob Tunnell recipe for BSP/SM E36 M3's. <http://www.tunnellracing.com/M3toBSP.html> Patty Tunnell had an amazing come from behind win in DSL driving a BMW 330Ci. <http://www.scca.org/amateur/solo2/nationals/2002/results/dsl.html> -- Rex Tener rex_tener@yahoo.com 1996 BMW M3, SCCA SFR Solo II Street-Mod #173

I'm actually serious here, if someone's getting 28 mpg's I'd like to know why I'm getting shorted the 4 mpg, especially since I commute 250 miles a week. I average about 75-80 mph on the freeway. I've got a sedan. I've got 245's on the front. So assuming Matt is crawling along, with a coupe, 225's, and a tailwind, would that account for 4 mpg?? I've got a similar setup (sedan, 245s all around, same cruising speed, same weekly mileage), and I can get 26-28mph with a very light right foot and no changes to the traffic flow. But I do that very rarely. Average mpg for a tank is 20-21mpg. My 2 cents, Jim Bassett

Extra Stuff Deleted: Mark, I see from your email address that you are in Santa Clara County. Being a former resident of Santa Clara and Campbell, I can tell you that the difference in your mileage could have something to do with the Oxygenated Fuel used in the Bay Area as well as the MTBE if it is still in use there. However, I have no MTBE and 93 Octane here in Houston, TX and I still get 18 to 20 avg. mileage. If this is due to my O2 Sensors being junk, I too would like to kow this. My mileage did go up a little when I sharked my '97 which is also a sedan. Most of my driving is highway miles at between 65 to 80 MPH. If I can "clean" the O2's as a cheap insurance, please let me know how to do this (I've never heard of such a thing). Thanks, Mel I'm actually serious here, if someone's getting 28 mpg's I'd like to know why I'm getting shorted the 4 mpg, especially since I commute 250 miles a week.
